Project Summary

While performing a computational heavy work, if the required computing power of the task exceeds our capacity. We don’t have much options. Either we can offload that work to a remote server, or we have to upgrade our hardware for better performance, which sometimes can be costly.

Our proposed system will allow us to feed data, that is to be processed into blockchain network which in our case is Ethereum Blockchain. We then execute the required task in the form of small chunks on the Blockchain network using the mining power of the Ethereum mainnet network and then return the task to the orignator of the task.

Doing this we can benefit from far greater processing capabilities then one can actually afford.This system not only can perform computational heavy tasks effeciently but it is also economical.

Project Objectives

Our goal is to harness the computational resources in decentralized computing infrastructure such as Ethereum Blockchain, which will help in very energy-efficient distributed computing.

The objective would be to create grid or cluster of processing power which will be able to process large-scale data.

This will be achieved by developing a Dapp (decentralized application) which run on smart devices which will interact with the Blockchain enabling them to ofload their data to the Blockchain.

The processing power can be used for either research purpose or by large organization (maybe use by large business where processing can be done on Big data or machine learning problems).

Project Implementation Method

The final deliverable will be a Dapp(decentralized application) which will enable user to ofload data to the grid of minners residing on blockchain.

The user will pay some gas(which is internal pricing system of running a transaction on a blockchain network) this maintains balance of workdone by the miners and recieved reward against each transaction.

The data will be devided into chunks and will be distributed over te notwork of blockchain(For detail: see technical detail section)

After processing the data on the Blockchain network, the data will be re-compiled and returned the orignator of the task through Swarm.

Benefits of the Project

Huge data centers not only have a bad impact on environment but are also expensive, furthermore these data centers having a centralized system makes it easy for tech giants like Google and Facebook to have too much control over personal data. This system of local clusters for computing decentralizes data control. Using our system, we can perform computationally intensive tasks at much faster rate and lower price.

For reference we can compare the traditional method of cloud computing using time and price as standard, if servers are performing a specific task in 3 to 4 hours at $30, using blockchain we can perform the same task in minutes giving $8 as gas for the network

This could be used by researchers, startups or by businesses to fulfil their lacking capacity of processing/computing power.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The system consists for a front-end Dapp(decentralized application) which will interact with the Blockchain to ofload data using the Swarm.

This data will be divided into chunks by our algorithm which will reside in a Smart Contract which is the heart of any decentralized application. All the checks and balances reagrding timestamps or data partitioning will behandeled by the smart contract.

Finally the chunks of data will be executed oer the vast network of miners on the blockchain network.

The data will be re-compiled by the Smart Contract and finally the result will be returned back to the orignator of the task.
