Project Summary

Managing vehicle and driver authentication is an intense and time consuming because of the significant increase in the number of vehicles. The lack of automation in vehicle authentication and requires a person to control that may cause a security breach. Checking every person who requires a parking place personally, requires enough stamina, time and judgment which makes the parking process quite delayed and hectic.

An autonomous vehicle authentication and parking system (AVAPS) is the best solution to the above-mentioned problem. As the proposed system also includes driver verification using face recognition. 

AVAPS is an automated vehicle and driver authentication which includes the monitoring and detection of drivers and cars through cameras and sensors. The proposed method consists of the following steps.

  • The driver arrives at the parking lot.
  • The sensor detects the car and the camera authenticates the driver and the license plate.
  • If authentication completes successfully, the barrier lifts & the driver shall pass and vice versa.

AVAPS is a low cost and beneficial car parking system. It will include automated license plate recognition and face detection.

Project Objectives

There various applications of the proposed method. We limit our objectives to the scope of the project and list some of them here.

  1. Acquiring the proposed hardware
  2. Understanding the required equipment and sensors to develop AVAPS.
  3. Integrating, installing and interfacing the equipment in the real time environment and conducting test to pass the vehicles.
  4. Controlling the authentication system from the control room.
  5. Interfacing the system with the computer machine so we can apply the artificial intelligence algorithm.
  6. Integrating cameras for license plate and facial recognition.
  7. Implementation of the computer vision algorithms that are license plate detection and face recognition.

Project Implementation Method

The Autonomous vehicle Authentication and parking system consist of some major things that include;

  1. The auto boom barrier to prevent intrusion, cameras for monitoring the vehicles, sensors as detectors.
  2. Connect the boom barrier with the computer interface to control it using computer programs.
  3. Including the license plate recognition and face recogniztion to do the authentication of the vehcile and the driver.
  4. High torque motor: Long-lasting motor that generates up to 600Nm torque.. Optical beam sensor: Safety device to detect the presence of vehicles and reversal of boom.

Benefits of the Project

The proposed system adds an intelligent and autonomous system to the existing security system, it will definitely improve the existing system.

  1. Improved security: By installing a boom gate with autonomous vehicle authentication and parking system, we can approve or deny entry to vehicles entering based on their credentials.  If anybody tries to trespass the parking the alarm will alert the guards and the intruder will also have to damage his car by being hit with the boom barrier.
  2. Cheaper System: the proposed system is cheaper as compared to the existing systems. It includes the material and equipment which can be acquired at the very feasible and economic rate and every organization can easily deploy the proposed technique. 
  3. Save money on security costs: The proposed system will save your money on security costs in the long run. The AVAPS is once installed it won’t require any further money to be spent on it. By installing AVAPS no security guard would be required to keep any check and balance of cars entering your parking lot.
  4. Control the flow of traffic: The proposed system is the best way to control the flow of vehicles on and off your property. This is important for properties with limited parking spaces that often attract a lot of vehicles. The proposed system also allows you to control vehicle parking in your place. And if your parking area is full, you can prevent further entry.
  5. Reduce manpower: The proposed vehicle authentication system reduces the need for people required to maintain the security system.
  6. Instant privacy: Are you sick of people driving around and having a sticky-beak at your property? If so, a boom gate will give you instant privacy. If you have a commercial property and want to protect your intellectual property, trade secrets, and prevent theft, a boom gate is a great solution. And if you own a residential property, a boom gate can protect the privacy of your residents.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable would be a cheaper autonomous vehicle Authentication system which will comprise a hardware/software integrated system.

  • Design a cheaper automated boom gate to control from the computer or mobile system. 
  • Vehicle authentication using license plate recognition.
  • Drivers/vehicle authentication using the face recognition system
  • Facial database to recognize the human.
  • AVAPS (Final product)
