Project Summary

Nowadays, the level of accidents is increasing day by day. Negligence of train drivers and gatekeepers is the main reason for these accidents. No fruitful steps have been taken so far in these areas. So, a system was designed to help out the railway department. Our project deals with the intelligence of the train engine with automatic gate controlling, speed controlling and sensing obstacles on the way to avoid accidents.

Our project involves the design and construction of a safe and better railway system.

It based an automatically controlled system. There are three main modules in our project.

  1. Automatic Breaking System

The first module is totally concerned with the feature of providing safety. We have installed a feature of automatic breaks in our project which will be capable of sciencing any obstacle on its way. Whenever the train will sence any obstacle it will automatically slow down its speed and then it will gradually stop.

  1. Speed Controlling

The train is also capable to reduce and maintain its speeds according to the environments like cities, stations, and plain areas

  1. Changing of tracks

The third module of the project will be based on the management of crossing trains at the same time on the same track automatically when needed with the help of sensors which can sense the crossing of another train on the same track. The gateways will also be controlled automatically sensing the traffic and the rote of train.

Project Objectives

The main aim of this project is to come up with some practical suggestions that are adaptable, affordable and more effective to the existing trains and railway systems. The project aims to provide an automatic approach in place of a manual one. Safety and protection is the first priority of ATPS because lots of losses have been seen by trains in the last decades. as manual train systems cannot sense the presence of obstacle and objects while ATPS will first attempt to resolve this problem by using sensors to slow down the speed and stop the train while any obstacle or object felt nearby it. By keeping the structure of security in mind this automatic train management system is designed. With the effect of this action need of manual driver will be excluded while on the other hand it all can be managed by driver which mostly not possible to control by him as with a human eye vision its not possible to see object from so far area and slow down or stop fast running train before time while special cameras and high-frequency voice and object detector sensor can catch the information before time and can take an action which can safe lives. Therefore, an obstacle detection system is required for a safe journey by train. One of the very important features of our project is to sense the obstacle from a particular distance through Ultrasonic sensors, reduces its speed gradually and then capable of stopes itself. To match high volume traffic of residential section, there was need to provide an automatic speed controlling function then can take timely and effective actions to control the speed the train according to the colour code (red for stations to stop, green for foresters or non-populated areas speed up and yellow for cities or populated areas to slow down) that will be sensed by the different sensors.

Nowadays, the railway gates are operating manually. The railway gate management has to employ workers to be on duty for controlling the operation. Due to this, the worker will manually open and close the gate with under supervision. But their little ignorance can cause a severe lose so the third main objective of our project is concerned with the automatic opening and closing of railway gates to provide high security as well as reduce the men work.

Project Implementation Method

In Automatic Train Management System the train will sence any obsticle or any object from a particular distance through Ultrasonic sensors and reduce its speed, break or resume according to the object. The automatic train also controlled it speed according the enviroment which like stop on the station, slow down on cities and speed up at plain areas. There are sensors at all junctions which scence the train and change the track according to the train’s destination All gateways sensing the train and automatically controlled all of the traffic management.  The fault deduction machine ic checking the track and send location and faults of tracks to the  Control room through GPS system. That all of controlling multicontroller (arduino uno)
