Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryAutomatic License Plate Recognition system is a real time embedded system which automatically recognizes the license plate of vehicles. There are many applications ranging from complex security systems to common areas and from parking admission to urban traffic control. Automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) has complex characteristics due to diverse effects such as of light and speed. Most of the ALPR systems are built using proprietary tools like Matlab. This paper presents an alternative method of implementing ALPR systems using Free Software including Python and the Open Computer Vision Library
The purposed hardware helps us to automatically identify the number plates and the details of the owner the purposed system is automatic in operation and identify the any vehicle details by the image processing method.
Project Implementation MethodThis system helps us to identify the number plate by the following methods.
A. Capture
The image of the vehicle is captured using a high resolutionphotographic camera.
B. Preprocess
Preprocessing is the set algorithms applied on the imageto enhance the quality.
C. Connected Component Analysis
In order to eliminate undesired image areas.OR extraction of number plate location.
D.Segmentation
Segmentation is the process of cropping out the labelledblobs.
E. Recognization of number plate characters.
F. Display the vehicle number.
• Automatic number plate recognition cameras are used to measure the average vehicle speed over longer distances
• Used to identify a motorist when he/she drives away without paying for their fuel
• Targeted advertisement
• Automatic number plate recognition cameras are used for Traffic management systems.
• Used to Analyze the behavior (route choice, origin-destination etc.) of a motorist for transport planning purposes
• ANPR camera solutions automatically recognize customers based on their license plate and provide them the complete information about the items that they ordered the last time they used the service.
• Automatic license plate recognition camera solutions are used to recognize the guest vehicles in order to assist visitor management systems.
The hardware used in the implementation of this project are.
- Webcam : for taking the picture of the car number plate section.
- Buzzer : it will used for alarm purposes.
- Ultrasonic sensor: ultrasonic sensor is an instrument that measures the distance to an object using ultrasonic sound waves.
- Raspberry pi : The Raspberry Pi microcontroller is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables people to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Python.
