Project Summary

This project for small businesses introduces Pakistan's first automated laser engraving machine with an e-commerce website. In preliminary research, there is no e-commerce website for this laser engraving machine. This e-commerce website takes online orders; offers 24/7 live help chat, and provides a laser engraving solution for users with the ease of experiencing their customization online. Users will be able to select from a list of photo templates, including wallets, key chains, etc., and put in their text with their desired formatting (font, size, placement, etc.) to get a better idea of what the end result might look like. This is unavailable on the market today. This laser engraving machine is very easy to use with their software. This automated laser engraving machine has a new open structure and PC-based control system software. In traditional laser engraving machines, we don’t have any software to control the machine; it is controlled by some (manual) tools, and it requires expertise to control this machine. This laser engraving will be active. The X-axis and Y-axis move above the worktable with a laser head. This automatic process requires the laser to work in an open environment for the convenience of loading and unloading. The previous model of laser engraving generated fumes containing toxic particles and hazardous gases. We worked much more on fume extraction through a mine fan. It is easy to use for non-technical people.

Project Objectives

The main objective of the development of a laser engraving system and the development of a website for order.  We are developing a laser engraving system to effectively engrave delicate materials like wood and leather and to decrease the large-scale industrial engraving machine to small portable equipment. The system should be able to engrave soft materials with a low-powered laser device and also develop a website where customers can easily purchase their desired products in case they don’t like the sample pictures of the products customer can also customize the product to their requirements.

Project Implementation Method

The agile software development methodology is the most simplest and effective method to develop any project in which there is no no-depth planning and has the capability to make continuous changes for the customer requirements. In the agile process, there is an involvement of the customer from the beginning of the project till the end and customer feedback is also encouraged in this method. The approach we are using to implement Agile Methodology is Scrum, it is an iterative approach. Agile software development emphasizes four core values.

  • Individual and team interactions over processes and tools.
  • Working software over comprehensive documentation.
  • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation.
  • Responding to change over following a plan.

SCRUM Approach:

Scrum is an agile development method and it is an iterative approach that encourages how to manage tasks within a team-based development environment. Scrum is derived from an activity that occurs during a rugby match. Scrum believes in empowering the development team and advocates working in small teams It consists of three roles, and their responsibilities are explained as follows:

  • Scrum Master
    • Master is responsible for setting up the team, sprint meetings and removing obstacles to progress
  • Product owner
    • The Product Owner creates a product backlog, prioritizes the backlog, and is responsible for the delivery of the functionality at each iteration
  • Scrum Team
    • The team manages its work and organizes the work to complete the sprint or cycle.

Benefits of the Project

The main idea of this project is to develop an automated system with high-level functions on a low budget and to order this engraved product with more options of customization. We will be using DIY parts to build up an engraver that will be easy to assemble and require low-cost parts. A vendor with a requirement for a more powerful laser can be provided with the same engraver with the new laser replaced in it. We are providing a Laser Engraving solution to users with the ease of experiencing their customization online. Users will be able to select from a list of photo templates including wallets, keychains, etc, and put in their text with their desired formatting (font, size, placement, etc) to get a better idea about how the end result might look like. This is unavailable in the market today. An easy-to-use interface for non-technical users gives them an edge over other engraving software. With minimal settings and options, users will be able to utilize engraving in a faster and more efficient manner.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

A portable laser engraving machine has the characteristics of a low-cost operational setup and portability and with an e-commerce website takes online orders; offers 24/7 live help chat, and provides a laser engraving solution for users with the ease of experiencing their customization online. Users will be able to select from a list of photo templates, including wallets, key chains, etc., and put in their text with their desired formatting (font, size, placement, etc.) to get a better idea of what the end result might look like. We could use this machine for engraving plastic, wood, and cardboard. With time, the characteristics of laser engraving have been improved. It has a material-cutting feature.

Engraving work on wood and plastic was difficult at an early time. With the invention of the automated laser engraving machine, engraving work on wood, plastic, and other materials has become simple and low-cost.

The CNC laser engraving machine is operated by a programmed command. It produces high-quality work. These machines have a program for tool functions.
