Automated Fortification and Smart Monitoring of Distribution Transformer
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryDistribution Transformers (DTs) are essential part of WAPDA's distribution system. They are affected due to overloading, phase unbalancing and internal hydration which result in overheating and short circuit and eventually they are decayed. In summer due to much overloading, the number of burnt transformers incease and a lot of money is required in workshops for their reclamation. Therefore,as we have a protection system for power transformers we must have a protection and a monitoring system for DTs to avoid a burden on our economy. For this purpose we are prepairing a prototype for DTs automatic protection from above mention affects and also an IoT based monitoring system for their quick replacement before they are decayed. The proposed prototype will protect the transformer from overloading, overheating and will cool it too with the help of fans. The measured parameters will be sent to a web based server after every 15 seconds for transformer monitoring whether it is working in normal condition or a critical condition.Hence in last which is a main thing i.e we will have a data stored which will help us to enhance our research in this field and bring more enhancements and advanced systems for power distribution with very low power losses and hence an ever green Pakistan.
Project ObjectivesOur aim is to develop and implement an IoT based system for smart monitoring and automated protection of distribution transformer. This system will surmount the following objectives:
1. Measure the temperature and humidity of DT along with the voltage and current for all three phases.
2. Real time transmission of monitored values on a web-based server using GPRS.
3. Real time Protection against over voltage, over current and high temperature.
4. Storage and GUI based visualization of data at control room.
Project Implementation Method- Simulations of the proposed prototype will be made using proteus software. After the completion of simululatios prototype will be made.???????
- Proposed prototype will be assembled using a Distribution Transformer to which a device will be connected on load side for monitoring its parameters i.e. current, humidity and temperature.
- Readings will be sent to a controller having built in Wi-Fi module for transmission of data to the server. Further accessories will be attached for the cooling purpose such as fans.
- There will be an intelligent mechanism in the controller for the protection of DT from overloading such as logical tripping of phases.
- For instant protection cut off relays will be there.
- Data for the efficiency of the proposed system will be analyzed using server.
- Server will save the data after very few seconds i.e. 15sec.
- The real time data stored at the server will help us to visualize and analyze the graphs.
- These graphs are the results which will let us know about the efficiency of both transformer and the device connected for it’s protection.
- We can utilize these results for replacement of a decaying transformer or with little changings in device for the protection of other electrical machines.
- Stored data at server will help us to enhance research in Power Distribution.
- A device for distribution transformer with a lot of features built in such as it's protection from overcurrent, overvoltage and high temperature.
- Very less or no man power is required because a proposed protection system is an automatic system.
- 24 hours monitoring of measured parameters for analyzing it's performance.
- A quick replacement of transformer is an additional option on the bases of real time data which will be monitored in a control room with the help of GPRS.
- The measured data will be stored after every 15 seconds with which we will analyze further enhancements and hence opportunity of research will increase for advanced systems.
