Augmented Adverts
Project Area of Specialization Augmented and Virtual RealityProject SummaryThis project aims to eliminate excessive use of paper in advertisement market and introduce new, effective, eco-friendly and technological alternate solutions. Since usage of PVC flex and excessive paper has negative effects on health and eco-system, we will use Augmented Reality to serve as a replacement in this proposed project. The Augmented Reality based solution will be implemented using android platform for smart phone. This application would preferably be used via headgears. Since the advertisement mediums are diverse and numerous to replace one by one, therefore the main agenda is to introduce a single solution that can initially replace most of the marketing techniques that causes more damage than good. Furthermore, it will help business owners to minimize cost on marketing expenditures.
Project Objectives- To reduce paper and flex wastage in advertisement and marketing industry.
- Reduce cost in advertisement campaigns.
- Reduce threats to eco-system posed by advertisement methods.
- Introduce Innovative solutions to current advertisment methodology
Product will be based on augmented reality, which merges computer generated images or 3d models into real world view. Since we can also use headgear, this will give the user unique, realistic experience of visualizing the advertisement in AR. The application will detect an image and according to the pre-defined function to each image, user will see an augmented picture/video on the application. This can be done using cloud storage as the images/videos have to be updated time to time.

AR deploys virtual image over real-world objects. The overlay is executed simultaneously with the input received from a camera or another input device like smart glasses. This superimposition of virtual images over real-world objects creates an illusion that can effectively engage users in a virtual world.
There are 3 different ways to implement AR, SLAM, RB and LB.Mostly work in this project will be done using recognition based AR.
SLAM based AR or (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technique is an effective way to render virtual images over real-world objects. SLAM simultaneously localizes sensors with respect to their surroundings, while at the same time mapping the structure of the environment.SLAM is an approach to solve complex AR simulation problems and is not any specific algorithm or software. The SLAM system is, in fact, a set of algorithms aimed at solving simultaneous localization and mapping problem.[write separate lists of slam algos and understand them].
RB or (Recognition Based) augmented reality uses a camera to identify visual markers or objects, such as a QR/2D code or natural feature tracking (NFT) markers, to showcase an overlay only when the marker is sensed by the device. Marker-based AR technology depends upon device camera to distinguish a marker from other real-world objects.
LB or (Location Based) augmented reality relies on a GPS, digital compass, velocity meter, or accelerometer to provide data about the location and the augmented reality visualizations are activated based on these inputs. It is also known as marker less augmented reality. The location detection features in smartphones make it easy to leverage this type of augmented reality technology, making it quite popular. Some common uses of location-based AR include mapping directions, finding nearby services, and other location-centric mobile apps.
