Assistive Spoon for parkinsonism
Project Area of Specialization Biomedical EngineeringProject SummaryThis study presents the plan interaction of an Assistive Device with Parkinson's disease(PD). A client focused approach is proposed to analyze how an Arduino microcontroller employs to help people with impaired motor skills. For this purpose an assistive stabilizing spoon intends to measure this impact on the whole upper limb. This work aims to study techniques developed for hardware and software for a better approach in tremor’s suppression to bring back life quality to PD patients.
Project ObjectivesThe aim of this project is to design a Non-Invasive, User-friendly, cost-effective assistive stabilizing spoon, which can enable the victim to be self-reliant and self-confident.
Project Implementation MethodThe servo motor is optimized to detect sway in 3 of the axis named as (roll, pitch and yaw). Gyroscope and accelerometer will be used as input sources to the controller. This led to process the output on 3 servo motors that enables to stabilize the spoon’s position at a specified set of point.
Benefits of the ProjectWe can expand a low value,a non invasive stablizing spoon to a desired orientation in the presence of hand tremors.A higher life may be given to the antique people at home so that they can experience thier meal without any other assist. This plan intends to improve the well being of people through the use of assistive technology. It is battery powered and energy efficient.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe prototype began with the cutting of acrylic material by design and size already designed using solidworks. The cutting part is divided into two parts, which are housing and support for three servomotors. The whole system is controlled by the power bank. Power supply to Arduino Nano with three servo motors so that the MPU6050 sensor can detect the roll, pitch and yaw angle of hand vibration of Parkinson's disease and response accordingly.
