AR Badminton Game
Project Area of Specialization Augmented and Virtual RealityProject SummaryWe are using the concept of Augmented Reality (AR) to make gaming more interesting for the user. The AR Badminton Tournament will provide a 3D AR interface of badminton court to users that will help them to get entertained and stay fit in the isolation. It will be a great social platform where people will interact without actually meeting each other. The combination of real-world and virtual reality will give users a new level of gaming confidence. And as for most the PC or mobile games they require the user to sit at one place that makes the user lazy most of the time but AR Badminton Tournament will help the user to move around and will give physical fitness.
Project Objectives- Provides entertainment as well as physical activity to the user.
- Provides best user interface with minimum hardware requirement.
- Offers user a new way of gaming through AR.
- Can be used for self learning and training.
AR Badminton game is a hardware-based gaming project. The first user needs a system where the user has to launch our application. AR headset has extensive sensors, is used to display 3D space, and this provides users a hands-free interaction via hand gestures. The leap motion controller is for controlling movements through hand gestures. The Leap Motion controller is a sensor device that uses a sensor and infrared scanner to translate human hand movements in real-time for human-computer interaction. To connect Leap Motion Controller to the system, use a USB cable of that system and place the gesture tool in your hands.
Unity is a cross-platform game engine with a built-in IDE that supports 2D and 3D games. Unity can also be used for 3D visualizations such as still images, video, and animations. Blender is an open-source software used for creating animated films, 3D models, visual effects and creates great assets for video games.
Benefits of the Project• In this pandemic situation, where it is almost impossible for people to play physically badminton with their friends. Our application will provide an option where one player can invite his dear ones for tournaments.
• Contrary to standard mobile games, in AR-based games players do interact with the game in the real-world space and the virtual content can be placed in the 3D space, helps deliver a real 3D gameplay experience.
• Our application provides players an opportunity to train themselves for physically held tournaments.

The model-view-controller (MVC) pattern is quite important in interactive systems and in VR systems. It is useful for representing multi-modal interaction i.e. interaction through several devices and methods, such as VR Box, pointing, gestures, force-feedback etc. The construction of the architecture normally takes various iterations before the final design is finished. We identified the following functional blocks in our first iteration.
1. User interaction layer: Comprises the user interface, which accepts the user input
from several I/O VR devices and visualizes the output reflecting the changes performed in the virtual scene. This layer allows the operations specified in user interface.
2. Information processing layer: Constitutes the core of a VR system. The aim of this
layer is to process the information given by the user input and enacts the operations and tasks specified in the software requirements.
3. VR engines layer: Many engines are responsible for the operations for re-drawing the
objects in the scene. For application developers, VR engines are not very significant because usually they are integrated under the development platform or runtime environment. Therefore we will consider this module as a black box that performs low-level operations for the functions specified in the information processing layer.
