Driver Anti Sleep Device
In modern-times, owing to hectic schedules it becomes very difficult to remain active all the time. Imagine a situation where a person is driving home from work, dead tired after facing all the challenges of the day. His hands are on the wheel and foot on the pedal but suddenly he starts feeling drowsy, his eyes start shutting and his vision blurs and before he knows it, he is asleep. Falling asleep on the wheel can lead to serious consequences, there may be accidents and people may even lose their lives. This situation is much more common then we notice and hence, it is very important to counter this problem. So to address this issue, we have come up with a Driver Anti-sleep Device. This system alerts the user if he/she falls asleep at the wheel thereby, avoiding accidents and saving lives. This system is useful especially for people who travel long distances and people who are driving late at night. The circuit is built using 555 timer IC as switch, transistor, a relay and a tilt sensor. Whenever the driver feels sleepy and bends his neck down the tilt sensor detects and transistor drive the buzzer to sound an intermediate beep and l LEDs start glowing. When driver comes back to his normal position tilt sensor senses that and buzzer and LEDs gets switch off.
Hardware Specifications:
555 Timer IC, Tilt sensor, Resistors, Capacitors, Cables & Connectors , Diodes, LEDs, Switch, Relay, Buzzer
Applications:
This Circuit Saves Time & Electricity. It Helps To Prevent From Dozing off While Studying or driving by sounding a Beep at a Fixed Time Interval. The Circuit Is Capable of Switching off The Light, Fan and other Appliances Automatically in The Room.
The objective of my project is to save human life from varies type of accedents on the trafic roads.
Project Implementation MethodEveryone knows about the alarms that abruptly wake us from our slumbers each morning, but have you heard of alarms that can keep us awake while we're driving? We present - the Anti-sleep alarm.
Anti-sleep alarm is an application to keep car drivers awake. Although it was designed for car drivers, it can also be used in any other situation where you need to stay awake.
The way the app works is very simple. To make it work you need to have at least Galaxy Gear 2 or Galaxy Gear S. Optionally you can also have a mobile phone which is working with the mentioned devices.
At the beginning, the application asks (in the smartwatch) the user a series of simple questions, like how many hours they have been sleeping and how tired they are.
If you optionally have the phone, the application using front camera will be monitoring your face and face movements to estimate fatigue level.
Then, based on several factors like fatigue level, answers from the survey, the time a driver is on the road, the app gives driving instructions to the user:
The driver should shake hand from time to time. If the driver forgets to shake the hand, the soft vibration of smartwatch will prompt them to do so.
If not, the alarm will make loud noise.
A user can be also prompted to take a short break or finish the trip.
Simple, but it saves lives.
I hope you like the idea of the app and you find it useful for drivers. Of course there is still plenty of things we can improve to make the app better and to increase safety on the road, like:
better fine tuning of fatigue level computation, especially at night,
friend notification - if you don’t react as you should then the app calls your friend’s phone to tell them that something may have happened to you.
A recent scientific study in France found that more
than 800 deaths a year could be prevented with StopSleep: However StopSleep is not a product designed to keep you awake when you are too tired to drive. If you are aware that you are too tired, you pull over and take a break. You have a cup of coffee and maybe a short nap. The problem is not necessarily about falling asleep at the wheel, the problem is that the more tired you get the harder it is to remain alert and vigilant at the wheel and to concentrate fully on driving your vehicle safely is why we have designed StopSleep. Yes, StopSleep will alert you when it recognises that you are too tired to drive safely, but more importantly StopSleep will alert you as soon as it notices that you are starting to lose your concentration. StopSleep will alert at the first signs of a drop in awareness, activating even before you reach the dangerous state of 'micro-sleep' ensuring you always remain alert and safe at the wheel.
Scientific recommendations.
Further to our study, as soon as StopSleep alerts, we recommend that driver's should immediately assess their current level of fatigue and concentration. If they recognise that they are starting to feel drowsy and their awareness has decreased they should take the most appropriate action immediately: stop driving
Technical Details of Final DeliverableDuring the transportation of cargo and heavy materials over long distances (especially during night time) through trucks, the effects of inadequate sleep proves to be a major problem for these vehicle drivers involved in continuous driving, leading to fatal accidents. According to a 2014 AAA Traffic Safety Foundation study, it was found that 37 per cent of drivers fell asleep during driving . Out of the 21 per cent of fatal crashes, 13 per cent caused severe injury – all due to a drowsy driver who has to continuously drive for long time periods and at the same time, have an eye on the road.
So today, we are going to make a smart system that will keep track of a driver’s eye movement. If it detects that the driver might fall asleep or is in a drowsy state, then an alert is triggered in the form of a sound to bring that person back to conscious state.
A camera module connected to an RPi module continuously records video of the driver’s seat. A Python script then detects the face of the driver and when detected, the eyes of the person are captured and passed on to another module named eyegame, which then processes the captured video frame and detects the eye movement. If the eye of the driver remains at the same position without any movement or blinking, then an alarm sound will be triggered, asking the driver to stay awake and keep driving.
