Project Title

Automated Toll Plaza System(RFID Based)

Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject Summary

As we all know, transportation is the backbone of the economy of any nation. The improvement of transport networks leads to a good life of mobility, huge commerce in manufactured products and services, and greater levels of employment and social mobility. Definitely, a nation's economic situation is strongly linked to an efficient mode of movement. Two ways of collecting taxes are now utilized. First, there is a traditional technique of collecting money and sending a receipt. The other is the smart card technique, where the user must present his smart card to the installed system at the toll tax office to unlock the gate. Both systems have time-consuming. To reduce the queuing at the toll plaza gate we have proposed a system that is based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The basic concept of RFID Based Toll System is to automate and manually reduce the procedure of collecting at machine stands and lengthy lines at machine cabins by means of RFID tags. In this project, we will make an Automatic toll plaza system for highways (ATPSH), which is used to collect toll tax automatically. In this system, many of the problems have been reduced. Like no one is standing in lines, their payments will be deducted through their account. An RFID tag is placed in a car. This tag is just the unique number given to it. The RTO or the traffic authority assigns this. We will record all basic information and the amount he paid for the TOLL collection when their car has crossed the toll gate.

Project Objectives

The aim of this project is to provide a system with which people can make payments at toll booths or gates on roads faster.

For this project, the specific objectives are to:

·         Examining the human coordinated toll system currently being used.

·         Elicitation of various loopholes of the manual toll system.

·         Identifying various means by which toll collection can be done via technology.

·         Identify the electronic requirements for the construction of the RFID-based electronic toll plaza system.

·         Designing an Electronic toll system using RFID technologies like RFID Reader and RFID Tags.

·         To produce a system that can communicate with other existing technologies to increase throughput.

Project Implementation Method

This toll plaza system will be developing with the help of integration of hardware and software. Both will play the crucial role while the development of the system. The RFID reader will be placed on the top of the passing gate of toll plaza system which the RFID chip will be placed inside the car or will be paste on the wind screen of the car so that RFID reader can detect the RFID easily. In our system it will work like a pre-paid sim. Like they have to charge the balance into their accounts and once the balance is recharged the passenger will be able to pass that toll plaza system easily. Once the passenger passes from this toll plaza system the amount will be automatically deduct from the account of the passenger. If the passenger doesn’t have the balance into their account, then our system will send the auto generated warning to the passenger and if still passenger pass from the toll gate without recharge the system will make a fine against that particular passenger and make the passenger account in to the negative figures. To make our system cheap and user friendly we have decided to develop our system using the PHP (Personal Home Page) framework named as Laravel. This is the most commonly used framework which is now a days popular. This another reason of choosing this framework for our system is that this framework is very much safe and secure which come along with the encryption of data. As our passenger data is very much important.

Benefits of the Project

ITS is aimed at providing improved services to the transportation users and depending upon the service provided it is divided into the following seven components discussed as follows. Advanced traveler information systems, this component deals with the acquisition, analysis, communication, presentation, and use of the information.  The objective is to assist the surface transportation traveler in moving from origin to destination in the way that best satisfies the traveler's needs, safety, comfort, and efficiency.  The travel route may depend on the choice of the traveler. Advanced traffic management systems. This component includes the technologies to monitor, control, and speed the traffic flow.  In case of an incident, the traffic flow may be directed to decrease the congestion and speed up the traffic flow.  Help to guide the paramedics to arrive earlier at the incident and thus reduce the losses. For commercial vehicles operation, this component utilizes technologies to speed. the flow of the commercial vehicles and increase their safety.  The technology minimizes the stoppage of the commercial vehicle at the weigh stations, port of entry and thus speeding the flow.  This also saves a lot of time and fuel and also reduces fuel emissions.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We will use the RFID card on the car's windscreen. So that once the car passes from the toll gate, The RFID reader can detect the car and deduct the toll tax amount from that particular car user's wallet. An RFID tag or transponder consists of a chip and an antenna. A chip can store a unique serial number or other information based on the tag's storage type, which can be read-only, read-only, or write-only (WORM). The antenna attached to the microchip transmits information from the chip to the reader. Typically, a larger antenna means a greater reading range. The label is attached or embedded in an object to be identified, such as a product, a box or a pallet, and can be scanned using radio waves by mobile or stationary readers.

For an RFID system to work, you need a reader or reader that can reliably read the tags and transmit the results to a database. A reader uses its own antenna to communicate with the tag. When a reader emits radio waves, all the tags that are destined for that frequency and that are in range respond. A reader can also communicate with the tag without a direct line of sight, depending on the radio frequency used and the type of tag (active, passive, or semi-passive). Readers can process multiple items at the same time, allowing for longer read processing time. they can be mobile, such as handheld devices that scan objects such as pallets and boxes, or stationary, such as point-of-sale devices used in supermarkets.
