However, we all know that traditional text-based password systems are vulnerable to the shoulder surfing. Shoulder-surfing is a social engineering technique that is used to get sensitive information (e.g., Passwords) by looking over the victim’s shoulder. This is a problem that has been around and still is difficult to overcome without harming the usability of the systems that bring trouble to users. To overcome this problem numerous techniques are developed for authentication, e.g., Graphical Authentication methods. However such graphical based authentication systems are more vulnerable to shoulder surfing than conventional passwords.
Our project is to design an authentication system where the passwords will keep changing each time to counter shoulder surfing. The system will calculate the password using a mathematical pattern based on the current date and time. In this way, even an attacker succeed get the password by looking over the user’s shoulder, that password will not work after a few seconds. Such authentication systems can be used in many applications, e.g., Folder locking application in mobile, Application locking, Email authentication system etc.
The main aim of our project is to increase the security level in authentication systems using dynamic calculation of the passwords based on mathematical pattern
