Health facility is one of the fundamental need that should be provided to all inhabitants of a country. However, as far as Pakistan's situation is concerned, our health system is not advanced and well equipped compared to the rest of the world. The lack of proper planning and continuous increase in the population has further weakened our health system over the years. The current situation of a pandemic caused by COVID-19 has brought new challenges for the health officials, whose life can be at stake while treating the infected patients due to the limited availability of personal protective equipment. The infected patients, on the other hand, require continuous monitoring.  In this situation, we can benefit by designing an internet of things (IoT) based health monitoring system, which would allow the health officials to monitor their patients by maintaining minimum contact. Once attached to the patient body, the proposed system will be able to monitor the parameters such as temperature, heartbeat, oxygen level, and humidity, etc. The data will be uploaded on the could server and accessible by the doctor on the mobile app. A fuzzy logic-based expert system will diagnose the patient’s symptoms and conditions and generate alarm accordingly.

  • Integrating the system with IOT.
  •  Development of Android/ PC based application which will receive data from the cloud and will provide smart analysis using Fuzzy Logic based expert system.

Implementation

                      The system is a wearable device containing two parts (Hardware & Software). Both parts will work together to run the system properly.

Hardware:

                   It contains different sensors (temperature, heartbeat, humidity, movement, and noise) connected with a controller (Arduino) to get the health parameters from the patient. Controller will perform all conversions (ADC, DAC) and final values based on algorithms written on IDE (Integrated Development Environment) will be displayed on LCD. A Bluetooth module (HC-05) is also embedded with the system to transfer all health parameter’s values to the patient’s mobile to compute the condition of the patient accordingly.

    

Software:

 This part contains a mobile application with two online portals for patients and doctors with Sign-Up and Sign-In options. The hardware device will send health parameters to the patient’s dashboard via Bluetooth. A cloud is connected to the backend of application to store all the information about the user (patient). At this point, the doctor will access all the patient information in his profile and make contact with the user if required. The application will instantly auto evaluate the patient’s condition based on the fuzzy logic algorithm designed in the app and will be displayed on both portals. The doctor can see and analyze all the registered patient's records in his profile and recommend them some medication by contacting them. Figure 1 shows the block diagram of the project.

Benefits of the Project

Benefits

            Nowadays COVID-19 is spreading rapidly all over the world. In Pakistan, it affects a lot due to the careless and irresponsible behavior of people. The main reason behind this project is to help those people who suffer from such kind of diseases that can spread easily from one person to another. The main purpose is to provide facilities to the patient at home. This system provides them with a facility to communicate with the doctor while staying at home rather than anywhere else. Through this system affected person monitors continuously and his health information would be provided to the doctor. This information helps to recognize the patient's condition and can decide the patient's health condition accordingly. Using this system patient will consult with doctor and take his opinion regarding his health issues. So, by using this system patient does need to move outside from home and by this way the chances of spreading the disease are also less.

At the end of this project, both hardware and software will be the final products.

 A hardware-based device containing sensors like temperature, humidity, noise heart rate, pulse rate and movement will collect health parameters from patient’s body. This device also includes a Bluetooth module to transfer data from device to mobile.

A software-based android mobile application will decide the condition of patient using parameter values taken from patient. After that doctor accesses the patient health and recommends medicine or precautions.
