It is an irreversible and progressive disease. AD symptoms by the time rises and becomes sever enough for a patient to do his/her routine tasks. These patients require special attention and 24/7 assistance. Care takers are associated with these patients to help them perform their daily activities or routine tasks perfectly on time but it is quite a challenge for the caretaker to be patient and be there whenever the patient needs him/her. Therefore, AD negatively effects the lives of patients and care takers. Internet of things can provide solution to both patient and the care taker. Internet of things can contribute to health sector using smartphones. In the current decade almost, every person owns a smart phone and with the help of a self-assisted app monitored by the care taker may ease the lives of both patient and care taker. The proposed project presented will provide relief to the care taker and simultaneously helps the patient to do their routine tasks. A mobile application will be designed for activity planning and monitoring of the patient. Alzheimer’s caretaker application will meet the requirements of both the patient and the care taker. The main feature of said proposal is daily activity planning and safe zone marking. It will mark specific location on google map as safe and whenever the patient steps out of it an alarm will be generated and a message will be delivered to the caretaker/emergency contact list. Our goal is to develop an android application for Alzheimer’s patient and care taker which may ease the life of the care taker and helps the patient perform their routine activities on their own. |

An estimate can be made about how many care takers are involved. Therefore, a lot of research and development is being conducted for AD patients and our idea stands out to help the care takers and provide self-assistance to these patients. The objectives are as followed:
Firebase with android studio will be used for implementation of said project. Android XML are used to create the user interface. High speed internet will be required for hosting and storing the said application.

With the help of this application the caretaker will have some relief and will not to be around patient 24/7. Application will help to register both of them. It will also help the caretaker in updating medicines or adding/removing any activity. Caretaker will get articles about dealing and helping patients. Caretaker will mark safe zone for patients which will minimize the chances for patient of getting lost. The whole idea of this application is to provide benefit for both the patient and the care taker. Similarly, the patient will also share benefits from the said application. Patient will become more independent and get help for his/her daily routine activities through alarm. Patient may perform his/her activities without anybody’s intervention. Patient will not have to struggle remembering his/her medicine schedule. In the worst-case scenario if the patient steps out of safe zone, patient can be easily relocated and rescued. By the end of every day questionnaire will be ask from patient which will be translated as how much a patient is becoming independent. |

The final deliverable of "Alzheimer’s Caretaker" will be an android based application along with documentation and user manual. The application will be compatible with android API version 21 and above.
