Project Summary

Our air contains many pollutants which are hazardous to all living things and we inhale it on daily basis. These pollutants cause of many health diseases. These particles are called PM particles and are very small. Their diameter is very small less than 0 to 2.5 micrometer and cannot be seen by naked eye. Based upon the concentration of these PM particles and other harmful gases, we can determine the air quality. Which we called Air Quality Index (AQI). We will use different PM sensors and other gases which contribute very much to the bad air quality. Based upon the sensor values we will calculate the air quality index. We will be using Wi-Fi module to save all the collected data to the website using internet. In case Wi-Fi is not available, an SD card will be used to store the AQI values. Commercially available AQIs meters have only one sensor through which they evaluate AQI while our product will use multiple sensors to measure AQI. In future, we will commercialize our product in market which will be cheap and will monitor almost all hazardous gases. Our project is based upon IoT and it is not readily available in the market. We are proposing a low-cost solution.

Project Objectives

1) Measure the air quality index using many air pollutants sensors.

2) To create a tool that will monitor air quality in our environment.

3) Content of different gasses present in our environment.

4) Display data on LCD.

5) Uploading data onto the website.

6) Compare air quality conditions at different locations.

7) Designing of the website for the uploading of sensors data for real-time monitoring.

Project Implementation Method

1) All the gas sensors will be calibrated using Arduino UNO, separately checking and analyzing the output whether right and wrong.

2) For verification of sensors whether they are working alright and collecting right data, we will compare it with Air Quality Index in the American Embassy.

3) We will make a website for uploading data continuously while connecting to the Wi-Fi. 

4) If we don’t have the option of Wi-Fi, data will be stored in the SD card and when Wi-Fi is available then it will stored on the website.

Benefits of the Project

1) Air quality monitoring and analyzing its quality whether it is fit for human health or not is one of the most important benefits.

2) This project will help us to monitor the quality of pollutants in the air which is harmful to us. 

3) Its outcome is also environment friendly which will make us aware of the air quality at the respective locations. 

4) We can improve our hazardous air quality by taking action against it as the implementation of trees and wearing of masks.

5) AQI is to help people know how the local air quality impacts their health.

6) AQI informs the public about environmental conditions. It is especially useful for people suffering from illnesses aggravated or caused by air pollution.

The final deliverables will be:

1) Air quality monitoring system which will be showing air quality on real-time screen.
