Project Summary

AImagenation is a project to transform conventional photography by automating it, using AI. Our project's core focus is to make smart cameras, enabling them to detect important events and capture them without a cameraman. That’s how it’s named AImagenation. By the completion of this project there will be a paradigm shift in photography. Also this will cost much more less than a professional photographer and it will also open new areas where smart cameras will be used such as drone technology, adventure tourism, sports, news and security and surveillance.  

Project Objectives

With the arrival of smartphones, the personal photography has been infused in it.  The photographic power of smartphones is increasing ever since. This gave rise to new phenomena in photography. Capturing a picture is still a forced activity. A person identifies a memorable moment and tries to click it with his/her smartphone’s camera. Such spontaneous events are usually missed. If useful events are captured automatically then precious moments of life will not be lost anymore.

Project Implementation Method

Our project is to develop a product that automates capturing of such spontaneous events. This can be achieved by developing an AI system capable of predicting the occurrence of useful events. This product will induce intelligence in cameras for personal photography. User will be able to connect with the product via an android app. In future this technology may also be used for sports coverage and analysis. News room cameras can also be automated with further enhancements.

Benefits of the Project

This product will enhance usage of camera for personal photography. It can assist or even replicate a cameraman in some scenarios. This technology has wide scope from personal smart photographer to an automated event capturer in the industry. They can be used in corporate or family gatherings. In future this technology may also be used for sports coverage and analysis. News room cameras can also be automated with further enhancements. By enhancing this product, we can use it in security and surveillance purposes by law enforcing agencies. 

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our final product will be a hardware system comprising two cameras (primary and secondary),an app installed in secondary camera, Jetson Nano, motors for motion control and a stand to support our device.

Primary camera will be taking live video feed from surrounding and whenever it detects a worth capturing event like handshaking, hugging and any more, it will send signal to Jetson nano that an important event is happening . Jetson Nano will send signal to app for taking photos of that event. The app will trigger our secondary camera (which is basically a smartphone) for capturing event. The purpose of motors is to rotate cameras to 180 degrees. Primary camera will be taking live video feed of event within the given range of rotation degrees. While, Secondary camera will be rotated for perfect image frame (to bring the Object if interest into center of frame). The whole communication among cameras, app and motors will be through Jetson nano. The AI models will be installed on it which will be responsible for event detection and automation of product.
