ADVANCED PCB MANUFACTURING AND AUTOMATION
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryAutomation in printed circuit board manufacturing is no different. Without these advances, we wouldn’t enjoy the benefits of today’s high-speed, high-density, complex multilayer circuit boards. This would be extremely detrimental to industries such as computing, telecommunication, and IoT, which rely on the latest PCB manufacturing techniques to get their electronics built quickly and with high quality. To keep up with the needs of today’s technologies, PCB assemblers are constantly looking for new and better ways to improve their manufacturing techniques.
In Pakistan there we don’t have any PCB manufacturing industries that are producing the standard quality PCBs and also they are costing much higher from their clients. We need to find a PCB automation solution that can produce cheaper boards with high quality ensured. Also we need to focus on the mass production issue, so that we can produce thousands of PCBs per day.
Our main aim of this project is to find the PCB automation solution that is cheap, high quality and can manufacture PCBs with tremendous speed.
Our second main objective of this project is to propose a 100% percent automated solution that require at most two workers. One being working as a designer and other one as an operator.
One more crucial part of this project is the QC testing of the designs. We will QC test the boards by automated method and AI(Artificial Intelligence) method. In first method by using two probes we will recursively check the copper tracks (continuity test). In AI method we will properly test the copper tracks and copper quality.
Another integral part our project is to focus on chemical free manufacturing of the boards. That is environment friendly and will help us to reduce pollution.
Two of the members (Atif + Musab) will work on the coding as well as power electronics circuits in this project. Faizan will research on the mechanical parts being used in this project as well as testing of the circuits. AbdulRehman will design the 3D parts models that will be used assembling process of the project as well as designing the individual required parts required during the project. Now we are working on to find the solution as a team, as soon as we manage to find out the solution for this project we will move on to hardware assembling part.
Right now we are thinking about several solutions and checking the feasibility of each solution. We are thinking about these solutions for PCB manufacturing automation.
- Copper cutting through Laser Projection
- UV Light Projection through Projector
- Water Jet Cutting
- In Pakistan there is not such PCB manufacturing industry that can do mass production. We want to find an automation solution so that we can produce thousands of PCBs per day.
- PCBs can be manufactured at very cheaper rates with quality and safety.
- Electronics industry in Pakistan will get PCBs manufactured with cheaper rates.
- Want to find the environmental friendly solution for the manufacturing to get rid of Ferric Chloride chemical already used for manufacturing.
In the final deliverable we will have a assembly line and it includes the two parts:
- The first section is of Manufacturing section.
- The second section is of QC testing.
