According to statistics, at least a dozen people, especially those in road accidents,[5] lose their lives while on the way to hospitals. A patient of road mishap has to be brought to a hospital within an hour, which increases chances of survival.

By considering the current heavy traffic conditions in Major cities of Pakistan, in emergency situations like road accidents, cardiac arrests etc., ambulance services get highly affected. People die due to improper and untimely treatment which is a serious issue. The proposed system aims at collecting and sending the patient’s information to the hospital prior to the ambulance reaching the hospital so that suitable arrangements can be made at the hospital for better and efficient treatment of the patient.

Apart from the basic equipment present inside most of the ambulances like emergency medical kit, two types of stretchers, defibrillator, portable oxygen cylinder, glucometer, ECG and ventilator our health monitoring system (HMS) for ambulance will contain Heart beat sensor, Finger-Print Sensor, Temperature Sensor that continuously monitors the patient’s vital health parameters and sends that data to nearest hospital. To overcome the accident death rate, an inbuilt Health Monitoring System for the Ambulance can prove to be beneficial. There is a need for the hospital authorities to be aware of the patient’s biomedical conditions, so that relevant and timely treatment can be provided to the patient which means there should be a wireless communication between the hospital authorities and ambulance in charge.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method

Our project is divided into 3 main portions: The first portion is to detect the accident that has occurred in some area which can be done by inserting a detection circuit in a car (like blackbox) whenever the accident occurs the required data is sent to the nearest hospital with its location so that an ambulance can reach there without any late.

The second portion is to monitor the condition of patient present in ambulance using different sensors like ECG, Heartbeat, Temperature etc. and send that data directly to the hospital doctor so that he can be aware of patient’s condition and do required preparation.

The third portion is to make an mobile app to make communication between the doctor and helper present in the ambulance so that the doctor can give him directions for what to do while the patient is in ambulance using the camera of his mobile phone for video chat with doctor.

Benefits of the Project

The Accident detection and Health monitoring system for Ambulance is very beneficial for the patients like accident victims, pregnant women or people suffering from serious health issues deserve immediate medical attention. If it not given on time that can be matter of life or death in most conditions. Our project uses new technological innovation to insure the safety of such patients’ lives or at least make an effort toward that, using the mobile app to make contact with the doctor present in the hospital to video chat the condition of patient and get required instructions of what to do next to protect one’s life prior to reaching in the hospital.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final project will be accident detection circuit that can be implemented in the vehicle that sends required location of the vehicle when accident occurs. There will be two terminals apart from each other that when accident occur will join together and that signal is sent to the screen in a vehicle where it will wait for 1 minute for the  accident victim to press button to ensure that everything is all right, if not then a distress signal will be sent to his/her relatives and the nearest hospital along with his/her location using GPS and GSM module circuits.

The health monitoring system in the ambulance to get patient’s vital signs that can be monitored by doctor, prior to patient reaching the hospital, and required instruction video chat between the doctor and helper present in the hospital. Using sensors whose data can be gathered by the Microprocessor and then sent that data through bluetooth module to the mobile phone where that data can be sent to nearest hospitals.

Finally, the mobile app in the phone will insure the continuous communication between the ambulance and hospital using interactive interface.
