To address various issues for managing traffic on roads and to help authorities in proper planning, a smart traffic management system is proposed in this project. Traffic Signal will recognize the presence of every vehicle using the GPS technology and through the obtained data which will be sent through the GSM module, the changing of signal from red to green will be decided. Besides this, RFIDs are also used to prioritize the emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire brigade vehicles during a traffic jam. This project also emphasizes on Location-based advertising (LBA) allows the delivery of advertising messages to consumers in places that are known for their particular high and positive advertising effect. While LBA is recognized for static roadside billboards and the Web, LBA can now be found on mobile devices. This mobile advertising adds valuable opportunities for companies: it allows consumers to be addressed (i) individually, (ii) based on their current location, and (iii) dynamically in real-time; furthermore, (iv) content may be replaced quickly by remote access. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed traffic management system, a real time prototype is developed which not only optimizes the flow of traffic but also enables the emergency vehicles to signal the traffic signal controller placed in the traffic junction regarding their arrival so that the traffic will be regulated in order safeguard the lives of human beings.

Project Objectives

Objectives includes

The project will include a traffic signal with a receiver, vehicles equipped with GPS and GSM Module interfaced with a microcontroller will be used to send data to traffic signal whereas RFID system placed on the side of a road to deal emergency vehicles. Moreover, an application will be developed for both android and iOS user to deal location-based advertisement whose data will be stored on firebase which will be further displayed on LCD placed in public transport and on personal mobile phones. The final result will include a real time prototype which will be tested in Hamdard University.

Project Implementation Method

The Arduino mega connected with GPS, GSM and RFID Module will recieve data about vehicle position from the GSM Module and GPS Module placed in vehicle. As soon as the vehicle enters into a GPS fence the vehicle will be counted. The Vehicle counting will tell the density of traffic after which traffic signal will take particular decision. Moreover if emergency vehicle will reach at a particular signal, the signal will turn to green immediately due to RFID System. The NodeMCU will be connected to the Firebase which will be used to send data to the user application developed through React Native and on the LCD placed inside Vehicle. The main reason of using this module is to introduce location based advertisement.
