Abstract

The following report will examine all of the elements of The Founders Secondary School classroom that I observed in Miss Asma’s class. I will discuss the environment of the school, the student’s participation, and the teacher’s overall effectiveness. I will then talk about how much the experience had an impact on my aspiration to teach.

Introduction

            Teaching is the center of all education related topics. So as a student of the Institute of Education & Research, we had to teach in real classroom environment. Before starting teaching in a real classroom environment it helps a practice teacher to acquaint them with the process, method, of teaching if they observe a class of a certain level before entering a class as a teacher.

This report is composed of the descriptions of teacher’s and students’ interactions and behavior, while they are part of a communicative class. Sometimes, I am going to base some observations on some concepts and ideas studied during the course Methods.

At the end, I am going to present my own considerations about the whole teaching-learning process that I could observe during these two classes.

Observation

            For my teacher observation, I have chosen to go to The Founders Secondary School to observe. The school has around 500 students and over 25 teachers thus creating a stable student to teacher ratio.

            I have chosen class 7th to observe in their Science class. There were 28 students in the class. All of my observation hours were spent observing Miss Asma’s classroom. After walking into the classroom, students said Assalam-o-Alaikum and welcomed me by standing up to give me honor and to show the discipline. I replayed them WaAlaikum Assalam and asked them to sit down by thanking them. Class teacher Miss Asma also welcomed me with a happy and fresh face in the morning. Which ensured me that I am going to pass my time with a great personality and a good teacher.

            The classroom was neat and clean and well decorated with drawing cards and charts created by students, as their names were mentioned over there. Each and every thing was arranged well and placed at its proper position like students’ chairs, teacher’s desk and even the basket.

            Now I have taken the seat. Class teacher Miss Asma started marking students’ attendance. After marking students’ attendance, she told a joke to the students to attract them and make them active. After making the students relax and refreshing their minds, she gave them a short moral lesson to motivate the students. These two things took about 4 minutes but make the students active and serous for further lecture.

            After that teacher asked the students to open the book to get started. Teacher took a little review of the previous class lesson so that students can easily understand the further lesson by keeping the previous lesson in mind without any confusion.

            Teacher wrote the topic of the day and get started. Teacher used common life examples to explain each and everything so that students can easily understand. I observed that teacher had a great knowledge of the subject therefor she didn’t need to look at the book again and again. Teacher didn’t lose eye contact with students to make them active and make them realize that teacher is just looking over there.

            During the class teacher avoided sitting on the chair and engaged all the students by asking them questions, like real life examples related to the topic. One of the best thing that I liked is that teacher didn’t asked questions to the particular students like students in the first row etc. Teacher also encouraged the students to ask questions.

            Finally as whole, teacher also applied strict rules to let the students be in the limit.

 Remarks:

            Teacher has a detailed knowledge of her students and selects teaching strategies that improve their learning. Students love her teacher as she deserves due to her good behavior and kindness.
