Window cleaning methods in skyscrapers are considered dangerous for labours involved because of windows being installed at extreme heights. Different manual methods that are currently employed are dangerous and unsafe. Considering the safety of labour involved, automated unmanned machines can be deployed. The aim of this study is to use and modify Quad-Copter for window cleaning purposes that will also provides safety to the workers. This design consists of  a Quad-copter with water nozzle and Glass cleaner brush. After water is sprayed, glass cleaner brush washes the window. This system is applicable for almost all window sizes and window forms. This method of cleaning is cheaper and convenient than other methods.

Project Objectives

Our main objective is to design window cleaning system integrated with remote control Quad-Copter. The goal is to make Quad-copter stable in air and cover maximum height for buildings which are above six floors in order to make cleaning easy and convenient. Our objective is to make Quad-Copter efficient and less time consuming rather then other manual cleaning methods that are time consuming and costly.

Project Implementation Method

Firstly, 450mm Aluminum Frame is constructed, then brushless DC motors(BLDC) are integrated with frame. After that propellers are coupled with BLDC Motors. These BLDC motors are connected with Electronic speed Controller(ESC) which control the speed of these motors. These ESC's are connected to main Flight Controller and power distribution board. Transmitter sent signals to receiver and receiver gives output to flight controller. Stability and acceleration of Quad-Copter is measued by gyroscope and accelerometer sensors. Cleaning brush, water nozzle and water bucket are integrated with Quad-copter frame. Quad-Copter lifts about 400ml water in bucket and cleaning process take place in two steps. In first phase, user operate Quad-Copter to spray water on window. In second phase, when Quad-Copter fly near to the window, Cleaning brush makes contact with the window. After water is sprayed, user turn on the brush which rotate and washes the window.

Benefits of the Project

This project of Window Cleaning Quad-Copter provides security to labours and easy way of Cleaning tasks. The system is applicable for almost all window sizes and window forms. This method of cleaning is cheaper and covenient than other methods. Window cleaning Quad-Copter can also be used as a fire fighting applications, cleaning wind turbine, painting wall and crop spraying etc.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Window cleaning Quad-Copter covers as high as1,000m above ground. Flight time without load is 48 minutes and with load is 20 minutes.Thrust of each brushless DC motor is 1183.60N. The totall Payload capacity of Quad-Copter including its own weight is 2350.8g. Battery capacity of Quad-Copter is 3300mah and battery discharge is 2.6Ah. Window cleaning Quad-Copter can use 500ml water in bucket for cleaning one window. Furthermore, it get access to a water supply via a hose that is attached to it and connects it to the ground.
