In a simpler word "Why my baby is crying?” is the project. The project uses automatic detection of a baby cry in audio signals and is an essential step in applications such as remote baby monitoring. We will be working on an algorithm that can identify why a child is crying, by making an interpretation of the infant's cry into an infant’s need. The problem falls into paralinguistic audio signal processing domain that classifies the  state of an infant based on the patterns exhibited by the crying sound events. More specifically adapted methodology will be able to distinguish among the four states: (a) hungry, (b) uncomfortable (need change), (c) in pain, and (d) need to sleep.

Project Objectives

• Predict the needs of an infant based upon crying sounds.

• Alert the parents on their smart phone if they are not around 

Project Implementation Method

The application will work by breaking down the acoustic features of an infant's cry and classifying them using pre-labeled cries in our newborn child sound database. The infant cries are translated using pattern recognition, deep learning and machine learning techniques.

Benefits of the Project

Crying is one of the major means of infants to communicate distress and attachment needs (such as being hungry 
or cold) to their caregivers. This application serves as a baby remote monitor to automatically detect baby cry 
and alert parents on their smartphones.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

An Android based application that will record and upload a baby’s cry to server. Using the machine and deep 
algorithms, the app will be able to analyze and translate baby's language in adult’s language by classifying the 
recorded sound in four different possibilities.
