Wearable Smart device for Visually impaired people
Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummaryBlind people do lead a normal life with their own style of doing things. But they definitely face trouble due to inaccessible infrastructure and social challenges.
We present a Wearable smart device to help visually impaired people walk by themselves through the streets .The system employs a set of sensors to track the path and alert the user of obstacles in front of them. The user is alerted by a sound emitted through a speaker and also the voice.
Wearable smart device for impaired people is basically voice controlled device which intelligently guide the path to the blind people. This device is tethered with the series of wires
and modules which facilitate the blind person for his/her ease while walking and also give the facility in case of any emergency the care giver of blind person can tracking their current location through GPS. moreover we are working the image processing for the object detection and recognition.
The motive behind designing this device is that visually impaired persons cannot be able to interact in the environment independently and normally, so this device enable them to walk normally by wearing light weighted device.
Project Objectives- Our project detect obstacles and also alert.
- Smart device able to track the user’s current location through mobile application
- Recognize some of the selected object using image processing technique.
- Voice controlled device.
First, we had to interface sensor with raspberry pi for measuring the distance from the object.
The device is embedded with Raspberry Pi, GPS module, switches and sensors. If any sensor is invoked, the, means the obstacle is detected then it alert the user through voice. All work is done using raspberry pi.
This system the IR sensor are used for long range of detection are used to sense the obstacle (if there is any). The sensors are set a threshold limit if any obstacle is found within that range it gives beep speech through voice.
The sensor is used for detecting objects/obstacles which are in front (left and right detection). After the collection of data the calculations are done according to the formula. Once the distance of the obstacle is calculated then the conditions are checked. The signal is then send to raspberry pi to operate. The raspberry pi reads the distance of the obstacle using sensor.
The Wearable smart device system consists of IR sensor, raspberry pi, GPS module, with the voice controlled ability. We need sensor to detect the obstacles moreover we use GPS module that can locate the location through mobile application, to detect some basic objects need raspberry pi.Through raspberry pi we are working on the image processing and recognized object so the blind person aware basic object .The mobile application is developed for tracking the user current location for this working on the andriod studio IDE. Then integrated hardware with software part.
Benefits of the Project- Basic need is to provide the safety and independency to the blind person while he/she is walking.
- Visually challenged people face many difficulties in their routine life. Usually, in many cases, they need to depend upon others, which makes them unconfident in an unfamiliar environment.
- The device is also very light and easy to wear.
- It is effective and affordable. It leads to good results in detecting the obstacles on the path of the user.
- Many blind people can’t afford costly devices stick so our aim is to make less cost effective device.
- So our project proposed feasible solution at the low cost provide the facility for visually impaired people while they are walking.
- The wearable smart device, constructed with at most accuracy, will help the blind people to move from one place to another without others help. This could also be considered a crude way of giving the blind a sense of vision.
- Developing the product at minimal cost becomes the key agenda of the project.
Our project will give us the two result in the form of hardware and software part.
HARDWARE PART RESULT:-
The final product:- wearable device consist of sensors, raspberry pi, battery, GPS module. All
- They will be able to locate their current position though GPS.
- They will be able to walk easily without bumping into the obstacles
- Alert the obstacles
- Easily controllable by voice.
- The blind person can recognize object.
SOFTWARE PART OBJECTIVE:-
- Caregiver can easily track the location of user through application
- Provide them ease while traveling.
