Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThe intention is to develop a wireless sensor networks for leakage detection in water pipes to overcome the problem of water dispersion in water distribution networks. Leakage prevention and breaks identification in water distribution networks are fundamental for an adequate use of natural resources. To address this problem, and simplify the leakage identification process, we are going to design a wireless network system making use of mobile wireless sensors able to detect breaks and save energy, time and cost with having smart water leakage detection in pipelines and control the water leakage by aoutomatic valve system. It focuses mainly on two parts:
.The first part will be alarm based on Global System for Mobile technology (GSM) to send Short Message Service (SMS) to the owner. The system will made up of basic components: sensors, GSM module, Arduino, relays to control the device.
.The second will be the controlling part; it uses automatic valves. The result of using the proposed system will improve the efficiency of operation, reducing delay time and cost of maintenance pipelines after leakage detection.
Small leakage problem becomes a big problem at times which leads to loss. At times people don’t notice the leakage problem or at a time people don’t want to notice the leakage problem. Not many people know and understand what little leakage problem can create a big problem and it has many drawbacks. When the pipe broke, it creates endless problem both inside and outside. Most of the time pipe gets damage and rusty which ruin the floor and floor is made up of tiles it can damage the tiles as well. Objectives to develop this projct include:
. Pre-awareness from the any damage due to water leakage.
. To prevent wastage of water.
. Attention and observation.
. To have comfort by using automatic valves system.
. For sustainable use of water and judicious use of electricity.
The system will be based on an Adriano UNO.Two flow sensors will be placed on the pipe, to detect the water flow rate. Arduino microcontroller will generate electric signals according to the flow rate of water. When there will be no leak in the pipe, flow rate will be constant all over the length of pipe.When leakage will occur, difference in flow rate will also occur. Flow sensors will sense the lack of quantity after the point of leak, and will give signal to Arduino. Arduino will generate different outputs like buzzer, LED and text message as per defined in Ardiuno sketch. GSM module will be used to send message to responsible person. If the leakage will not cured within 5 minutes then the valve nearest to the effective part. will automatically turned off by the automatic valve system.In this case, the purpose of system will be gained.
Benefits of the Project .Prevention from water damage: Leaks tend to not be detected until there is already substantial water damage, mostly owing to the fact that plumbing systems and other water repositories are often installed out of sight. Hence, it is likely that water is already seeping through your walls or already damaging cables without you noticing it. By the time you figure out that there is a leak, you might already need to perform substantial repairs on your pipes and interiors. This system will specifically combat such eventuality. By detecting leaks early on, you would be able to start patching or replacing pipes, or replacing faulty fixtures. You will may also ensure that electric cables are not exposed to leaks, so it will reduce the risk of electrocution or faulty wiring in your own home, office or any industry.
.You will get real-time alerts: One of the greatest perks of modern water leak detector and control system is computerized alerts. Hence, even if you are not at home, you can get notifications when there is water leak and even you will have not to worry as the there automatic valve system will be working to control the water leakage.
.This system will be easy to install: One of the main reasons you should consider installing a water leak detector is the fact that installing one requires no expertise whatsoever. All you would have to do will pop in the battery in the sensors and place them near areas where water damage is likely. As long as you will follow the product manual, you will have no problem installing them. The only time you might need a professional as if you will intend to integrate it into your smart home system. Upkeep will be minimal as you will only have to change batteries so often and nothing else.
.You can get to save on your water bill: Leaky pipes, faucets, and other water storage units can drive up your water consumption without you noticing. Installing water leakage detector and control system will apprise you of the location of the leaks, thereby it will be reducing water wastage and allowing you to save on your utility bills.
.You can get charged lower premiums for home insurance: Insurance companies will be more amenable to extend to you a home insurance with lower premium if you have a water leak detector and control system installed in your home. It will operate in pretty much the same way as a fire alarm, to the effect that it will demonstrate to the insurance company that you are doing everything necessary in order to protect your property. Showing such level of diligence can get you a discount on the insurance premiums you will have to pay to your insurer.
Water is one of the most important basic needs for all living beings. But, unfortunately a huge amount of water is being wasted by uncontrolled use and uncontrolled leakage. The main issue that will be addressed in this system, will about using an efficient sensor based on water monitoring and control system. A better way to monitor and control the water leakage. This water leakage indicator and control system of homes/offices/industries research concept will be completed by using wireless sensor technology. By using this system, you will easily prevent the water and the water will be saving to our generation. In our system we will mainly depend on technical method which deals with the control and features and effective methods for monitoring the plumbing. Based on microcontroller Arduino mega2560 and using GSM technology, it will make the work more efficient. Using GSM it will make the owner able to be notified when leakage will occurr, also the solenoid valves will be closed automatically with the use of automatic valve system. So in this way, we will achieve the main general purpose of this system topic idea which is water leakage detection and automatic control of the water leakage.
