Project Summary

Waste management is simple yet effective ways of reducing the amount of waste dumped into our landfills. But there are people who are unaware or even choose to ignore the fact that waste segregation and recycling are environment friendly solutions to the problem of wastes management and disposal. In the modern postindustrial age, it is important to save the natural environment from the impact of the human activity and the unreasonable use of the natural resources. Naturally, in order to produce goods and services people require resources, which are often exhaustible ones or need much time to restore and renovate themselves. The extensive use of the natural resources has an extremely negative influence on the ecological condition of the planet. In addition, recycling not only saves resources, but also solves the problem of littering and waste management. 

 In the Philippines, there are recycling centers but the process is tedious and done manually. There are guidelines implemented by the government with regards to recycling but these efforts have yet to touch the mindset of the people. Escalating amounts of recyclables that are not maximized and indifference in proper waste segregation has led to the group in developing a solution to this.

 This project Waste Monitoring and management system is a very innovative system which will help  in  environment sustainability and  fast recycling of the steel and metal. This system monitors the waste bins and measure the weight of the steel collected and informs about the level of waste collected in the waste bins along with the scrape steel via a web page. For this  system  use  ultrasonic  sensors  placed over the  bins to  detect  the  waste  level  and  compare  it with  the  waste bins  depth.  The  system  make  use  of Arduino family microcontroller to control every process and  Wi-Fi  modem  for  sending  data  to  server.  Waste bins are provided  with  low  cost  embedded  device  which help  in  tracking  the  level  of  the  waste  bins  and  an unique ID will be provided for every waste so that it is easy  to  identify  which  waste  bin  is  full.  When the level reaches the threshold limit, the device will transmit the level along with the unique ID provided. With a separate bin for steel or metal waste, Hx711 24 bit analog to digital converter, a 5Kg Load Cell or Strain Gauge, Arduino and node mcu will be used.  These details can  be  accessed by  the concern  authorities  from their  place  with  the  help  of Internet  and  an  immediate action can be made to clean the wastes.

This project will help  to enhance the business like steel ,plastic and paper industry as well as biogas plants by providing them waste material on time. These industries will produce goods that are very cheaper and people get benefit of it. Due to his  small medium enterprises business enhance.

Nowadays, there are tons of flats and apartments which have been built in the rapid urbanization area. This is due to high housing demands which have been drastically risen as a result of migration from villages to cities to find work. In order to accommodate the growing population in the urban area, the government has also constructed more apartment complexes. There are several issues faced by the residents of the flats. One of them is disposal of solid waste. Unlike private houses, the residents of all the apartments use a common waste, which tends to fill up very quickly. This overflowing of waste is a sanitary issue which might cause diseases like cholera and dengue. Moreover it is a waste of fuel to travel around a complex or an area to find that some of the waste are filled and some are not. Also, on rare days, problems might arise that there is so much waste that the truck doesn’t have enough capacity. By this method of wireless waste monitoring, the fuel consumption and time management will become more efficient by the automatic alert of the filling of waste and location.
