The voltage regulator is one of the most important and commonly used electrical component. Voltage regulators are responsible for maintaining a steady voltage across an electronics system. Voltage fluctuation may is necessary according to voltage requirement of a maintaining a steady constant voltage is necessary according to the voltage requirement of the system.
Major components of Voltage Regulator
Excitation Board ,Regulation Board,Protection Board,Power Diodes,Capacitors,Protection Relays,Transistors and many other electronic equipment’s.
Regulating the generator excitation current to keep its output voltage within a specified range when the generator speeds or the load varies.
Restricting both the over voltage amplitude and its duration time to a specified range when an instantaneous operational over voltage occurs in the power generating system due to:
Sudden cutoff of the batteries from the system where the load is relatively small;
Restricting both the over voltage amplitude and its duration time to a specified range when an over voltage occurs due to any failure either in system or of any component in the regulator itself.

Voltage Exciter.
Voltage Excitation is built by using the alternator. The alternator is excited first then we have to regulate the voltage of the exciter.
Protection
Third part includes the protection of the voltage regulator while the fourth part includes the temperature control of the whole system.
Temperature Control System
the temperature sensors to check and control the temperature of whole system. Then these batteries will be used for the firing purpose of tanks.
Initial Stage
In initial stage we will gather the data to start working on our project so it can be done in this way.
?Our members are going to take the speed reading of the alternator, Because the speed of alternator will provide us voltage. Taking the readings and getting the average voltage will help us knowing the minimum and maximum voltages coming from the alternator and controlling them
?Then we are going to take the readings on the excitation part to check the excited voltage.
?Simulations will be performed using different software.
Middle stage
After gathering the data according to requirements then we will start to connect circuit to make our project

?After assembling of the project, the project is again tested and verified with the help of test bench in HIT.
Main objectives of projects are following:
?A voltage regulator generates a fixed output voltage of a preset magnitude that remains constant regardless of changes to its input voltage or load conditions. There are two types of voltage regulators: linear and switching.
?To provide excitation voltage to the alternator field
?To regulate the output voltage within certain limits
?To provide protection to the Excitation circuit and voltage regulator circuit
?To provide constant output to the field from alternating speed of the alternator
?To provide better external protection to the circuit from harsh weather and during extreme climate changes.
Project Implementation Method
The alternators used in military tanks TK t-85 are 10KV, having current rating of 5A and Voltage rating of 28V. For this purpose, two batteries are connected in series, with each battery providing 12V. Voltage regulator is used with these batteries to increase or boost the voltage upto 28V. This boosted voltage is then applied to exciter field. The output voltage is kept between 24V to 28.5V, it is because voltage beyond 24V will not be able to charge batteries. Voltage above 28.5V will burst the batteries.
The main purpose of voltage regulator is to constant voltage within certain limits irrespective of the varying speed of alternator. The boxing of the whole circuit is made such that it will protect the circuit from environmental uncertain conditions .
Benefits of the project:
As the speed of the alternator is continuously varying, but the voltage regulator will provide a constant controlled output voltage. With this voltage the batteries will charge.The output voltage is kept between 24V to 28.5V, it is because voltage beyond 24V will not be able to charge batteries.The protection circuit used in the project will provide protection to the voltage regulation circuit and the exciter circuit from the abnormal conditions. The voltage regulation circuit in project will charge the batteries of tank. These batteries then will use to provide electricity to the electrical equipment's of the circuit. In case of any damage in voltage regulation circuit, the exciter circuit will be capable enough to be directly attached to the batteries.
Deliverables:
The product is capable to run, control and excite the alternator upto 10KW , 28V and 50A. Due to its outer box, it is also capable enough to sustain in different atmospheric conditions. As the circuit is built for military tank so its has very high precision and maximum accuracy. Voltage Regulator in this project is used to keep the voltage in a circuit relatively closed to the desired voltage. Since a power from the alternator is variable and will continuously produce raw current that would damage the components in circuit. This voltage regulator will keep voltage within range of 24V to 28.5V. A protection circuit is used to protect the Excitation circuit and voltage regulator circuit from abnormal conditions. Its protecting kit was enhanced with better efficiency against environmental conditions and proved to be good resilient when exposed to nature.
