Manually it is difficult to track the record of people entering into a shopping mall or a shopping outlet. Usually people come and go without buying anything, we need a system that automatically track IN and OUT record of people moving in a shopping Mall. We are planning for a system using IP based cameras, these cameras will track people entering and exiting from malls or outlets. When somebody will enter, the system will count it in ENTER subject and when someone will exit, system will count it in EXIT subject. This is beneficial for customer conversion rate, and security resources assigning. We will be using image processing algorithms in it, where camera image’s frames will be processed by algorithm and add results into our system. The system will show us how many customers entered into shop and how many did the shopping. So will result out the number of people who went away without shopping. Hence concluding that we need to implement better marketing techniques for our products and professional sales staff.
We have plans of prediction of crowd in a particular area using the same system in its upgrade and classifying on basis of gender.

Project Objectives

The main objective of this system is to count the number of visitors.

Owners can use this count data to optimize their marketing, visual merchandising, and shop operations such as attractiveness of shop design.

We can also measure the outside traffic of an outlet using the system, to estimate how many potential customers a location will be able to bring to the business.

Monitoring high traffic areas in shopping malls.

To predict when the peak hours fall in certain shop or outlet.

To achieve the accuracy.

It will show how many people are there in the center at certain hour.

Project Implementation Method

We will track the object in the frame, it will accept the input (x, y)-coordinates of where an object is in an image and will track the object as it moves around a video stream and crosses the line, predicting the new object location in the next frame based on various attributes of the frame (gradient, optical flow, etc.) Then will work as per the algorithm and code to count it into Entered or Exited people. We will use the IP based cameras for video recording and MATLAB for processing the images, and other image processing toolbox. We will use a server computer for processing of image frames. 

Benefits of the Project

Benefits of people are especially in commercial sites, where people go for shopping, moreover in Mega shopping malls.
It will help in monitoring high traffic areas in shopping malls.

It will predict the peak hours fall of the shop

It will show how many customers are actually buying the stuff and how many rejected the product in shops or product didn’t attract them. To conclude the customer conversion rate.

It will help align the security resources as per demand by showing highly recommended areas for security.

We can use it to count number of passengers entering into the Metro bus at station and exiting from it.

It can also be used as counting the number of people entering into stadiums, such as cricket, football, and other playgrounds.
It has benefits on wide range in fields where we need to count the number of people in situations. 

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our Final Technical deliverable will be a system based on image processing algorithm which will take input video from a surveillance camera and will show us the number of people passed through the camera in certain time before resetting time of our system. The system will be tracking the number of people entering and exiting from the mall in this case. It will be comprised of Camera, Server computer for processing,and a display screen to display.
