Project Area of Specialization Computer ScienceProject SummaryVisually impaired people are found to be deficient in interacting with their surroundings. Both partially and fully impaired people are constrained to carry out their daily routine activities. Commercially, many solutions are already available to handle visual impairment. However, the low-cost solution is still a dire need of society. This project will submit a robust and low-cost intelligent feedback system for visually impaired persons. This project includes but is not limited to, a react-native mobile-based app, a pre-trained deep learning algorithm. The mobile camera will capture images. The mobile-based app, equipped with a pre-trained deep learning algorithm will classify the common objects in the image. As a result, audio feedback based on the objects detected will be conveyed to the subject. In addition, real-time navigation on Google Maps, user alerts in case of out of bounds of geo fence, SOS alert, Alert, customize mapping of save region would also be provided to the visually impaired person. The proposed project will not only assist the visually challenged person but at the same it facilitate the society by adding such a person in the mainstream.
Project ObjectivesThe objective of the proposed project is to include the visually impaired person in the mainstream of society by providing them with such an app that would help them perform their daily activities. The system will give constant feedback to the visually impaired person of their surroundings.
Project Implementation MethodThe scope of the proposed projects includes, but is not limited to, real-time navigation on google map, customized mapping of the saved region using geofencing, object detection, text recognition, user alert in case of out of bounds of save the region, harmful object detection, real-time feedback to the user and SOS alert functionality.
Benefits of the ProjectThe proposed project will be a great tool for visually blind people as it would have functions that would help them in doing their routine activities. As can be thought of as an innovation, as there is no app for them that provides all the functionalities in one app like we intend to provide.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe expected result will be a reactnative mobile app for android devices that could be used by the visually impaired person to get feedback on their surroundings, real-time audio reading on text recognition, navigation, customize the mapping of the saved region, SOS alert, and user alert on out of bounds of geo-fence.
