Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummaryAmong all challenges, travel is one of the biggest challenges for blinds. Since Pakistan is a developing country therefore, we do not have many specialized services or resources to help the visually impaired. Whereas, in other countries special signals and cross walks for the blind people that helps them crossroads with the help of audio fitted in the traffic signal which acts as their guide. Presently, blind people use a white stick as a tool for directing them when they walk. Hence, by understanding the problems and lack of government supporting resources, we have proposed the idea that will help as blind stick in more efficient and effective way. With the help of our device (VisBox), the visually impaired will be able to detect obstacles or hurdles with the help of the sensor. It will also have a built-in vibration sensor that will alert the wearer. Moreover, our device will also come up with a pair of headphones which will relate to GPS and tracker which will allow the user to hear and understand the guidelines and keep a track about the area they are in. The family of the wearer can also track his location. There will be an application for the purpose of tracking and other useful features.
Project ObjectivesVisually impaired will be able to walk anyplace on their own with the help of a voice assisted directions and map that is incorporated into the device attached on the body. VisBox will be able to:
- Detect Obstacles in front of the person with the help of a camera sensor,
- In addition, the guardians can track the disabled person using GPS. The GPS will provide directions to the individual's destination. With headphones on, the person will be able to hear it
- The system will be voice-activated, making it simple to use for the disabled.
- Battery alarm is another feature that displays warnings about the battery level.
The device will incorporate sensors, a tracker, and a battery. All these factors will come together to create a beneficial system for impaired people.
Benefits of the ProjectThe main goal of this project will be to provide the visually impaired with assistance, to help them surpass the limitations caused by their inability to see.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe system's architecture is a client-server architecture. Many clients (web apps) request and receive service from a centralized server in a client-server architecture (firebase).
Client computers provide an interface that allows a computer user to request server services and view the results that the server returns. Servers wait for client requests to arrive before responding to them.
- VisBox Web App will behave as a client for the server. It will be retrieving and sending data to the Server for processing and management of the data that has been stored for the use. The Web App will most likely be running on mobile, however in some cases it may be used on other devices having access to the web.
- Firebase will behave as a base server. It will be fully responsible for receiving requests, providing resources, providing major services, and managing data for the client. Everything will be properly handled by Firebase as it we will be our core component.
- VisBox is a fully functional device itself. A lot of processing will be done in this device itself and will use different APIs and service providers like Google and other facilities to function. However, it will also send data to Firebase(server) for a lot of management and data that will be further used and sent over to the Web App
