Virtual Telepresence Robot
This Virtual Telepresence Robot with a camera is placed in a remote location to capture the environment in visual form using Raspberry Pi (RPi). The captured visuals are displayed on the user’s virtual reality (VR) headset. It gives the user a real-time experience as if he is present where the virtual telepresence robot is located. The virtual telepresence robot can also be moved in any direction through an app installed in the user’s smartphone. It will help individuals in scenarios where physical presence of humans is limited such as medicine delivery in infectious environment, for military applications, for mining and rescue operations.
Our objective is to target the different sectors and to:
The application for this project is in many domains. For example, the robot can be used to give tourists a real time feel as if they are present physically there. The robot can be used for the military applications as well. This robot can be used in businesses as well as for security monitoring purposes. When one is sick in bed or unable to move out of a restricted environment this project can help the user to observe and experience the world outside.
Firstly, our main priority will be to get the real time video into the VR headset. We have to control the robot’s movement through an app or any other control. The commands to control the movement of virtual telepresence robot can be sent via RF module from the smartphone.
The smartphone reads the accelerometer and magnetometer data of the direction in which the user turns his head, say, right or left. This data is sent to the modem over Wi-Fi and to the RPi board, which, in turn, provides these values as inputs to the DC gear motors. Two DC gear motors are used for the horizontal movement.
To help individuals in scenarios where physical presence of humans is limited such as medicine delivery in infectious environment, for military applications, for mining and rescue operations.
