Project Summary

We are developing an android application with using virtual reality technology for special children such as autism individuals. Teachers, parents and therapists will use this application for teaching special children or kids with autism in any place at any time with only having an internet connection and VR viewer/HMD. In the previous time when there was no treatment for specially Autism individuals they face a lot of problems in communication and interaction with people or with environment. They couldn’t learn new things at schools and their homes like other normal individual. Their parents are too worried about them and those individuals also frustrated from the world but nowadays virtual reality overcome this problem by applying a VR therapy for these Autism individuals or special children.  This application enhance the learning, communicating and interacting ability of special children. This application provide a virtual environment for learning new things such as letters, objects, numbers, colors  and so on which is normally not easy to learn for those special children in a real environment… In this application we will try to teach those special children with different learning styles in a virtual environment like they learn alphabets with their pronunciations, they learn numbers by counting objects, they understand colors and objects and then find them when solving different exercises, this application also provided  solving exercises that solved by these individuals  for learning purpose.. Those individuals will also enjoying music while learning, we include this music because the things with music are more easier to understand than things with simple lyrics.. These all activities will help those children to enhance their verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and those individuals also easily interact with environment or with other people and enjoying the world when they behave like other normal individuals.

Project Objectives

We want to create a Virtual reality application for cognitive learning of children with autism or other special children..

1. To create a VR environment with unity..

2. To develop a mobile app for learning base VR environment.

3. Create learning exercises for special children or children with autism:

  • Letters
  • Numbers
  • Shapes
  • Colours
  • Objects  and so on

4. Provide VR base interactivity with exercises

Project Implementation Method

  • Firstly, we install unity, android studio and use Google cardboard 
  • Then, we create a virtual environment
  • Then, Download the Google VR SDK for unity
  • Import the Google VR Unity packages
  • Configure Settings
  • Preview the Demo scenes in unity and prepare a device
  • Build and run the demo scene on that devices

Then add more features which we want to see in our application

Benefits of the Project

  • This mobile application enhance the ability of communication, interaction and learning ability of special children
  • Those children learn new things in a virtual environment which they not easily learn in a real environment
  • It improves the verbal and non-verbal communication skills of special children
  • Those individuals interact with different exercises that improves their interacting ability with their environment or with other people
  •  They better response to any stimuli by solving exercises with different learning styles..
  • They feel no frustration or difficulties to understand/learn new things or objects, although they enjoy learning in virtual environment     

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our application has four to five different interactive and interesting exercises that teach special children. One of exercise is letters in which children learn each alphabet by interacting and listen sounds of letters that helps to pronounce the letter correctly.

The other exercises are like numbers, colors, shapes, and objects..

In number exercise kids learn the counting.

Color exercise is very simple kids learn the colors by seeing real world things.

In shape exercise kids teach the structure of things that are belong to real world.

VR headset puts up a screen in front of eyes thus, eliminating any interaction with the real world. Two autofocus lenses are generally placed between the screen and the eyes that adjust based on individual eye movement and positioning. The visuals on the screen are rendered either by using a mobile phone or HDMI cable connected to a PC.
