Use of ICT for the Implementation of KP Building Byelaws
Project Area of Specialization Information & Communication TechnologyProject SummaryPeshawar District has turned into a squatter settlement, with poorly planned infrastructure and unstable management. With the growth in the city’s infrastructure, illegal construction malpractices have also risen. The major cause for this, is the contravene of building byelaws, human error and induced corruption. Our project, ‘ Use of Information and Communication Technology for the Implementation of KP Building Bye laws’ is intended to make it certain that Building bye laws are thoroughly considered before deciding to set up a building. For this purpose, BIM (Building Information Modeling) is the research technique we intend to use in this study. It is a process involving the generation and management of digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of places. Building Information models are files, that can be extracted, exchanged and connected to make reliable decisions regarding a building’ from construction to alterations or demolition. Implementing this latest IT technique that is’ Building Information Modelling (BIM) as a mediator and making use of this BIM platform along with Revit for sanctioning, scrutiny, execution and verification is the academic research method incorporated in this study.
Project ObjectivesThe main focusing, long term objectives for our project are as follows;
1. Coding and developing an application for real time checking of building designs with byelaws; using Revit maps of buildings.
2. Identifying the problems that could arise due to negligence of sanctioning policies; connecting them with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
Project Implementation MethodStructing the study;
A. Surveying Regulation Authorities i.e. Visit to collect data regarding implementation of Bye-Laws.
B. Revit Model of Actual Building; Collecting Plan of Building and Modelling on BIM.
C. Developing application; Running the app on the Revit Model.
D. Making Architectural and structural model of a building and checking it for violations through the app.
Benefits of the Project- Resulting in well planned urban cities
- Diminishing the ill-effects of mismanaged construction
- Promoting Socially, economically and environmentally friendly developments
- Removing injustices and unfair activities that result by neglecting the sanctioning policies
- Making feasibility studies and pre-construction work more scanned and clear for the Engineers
- Allowing the client to check out the details of their ongoing construction project; through the application online.
Our final product would be an Application; that would be used for real time checking of building designs with byelaws; using Revit maps of buildings. BIM (Building Information Technology) Technique would be used to draft the maps. In this IT Technique; every element of construction has its own self-identity. We will extract the IFC File from Revit which is actually a text files consisting of values and strings of every part of the drafted map. This ifc file would be uploaded in the Application, and the application would compare the values in this file with the KP Building Byelaws 2017 that are already being coded into the application. The application would clearly display the violations on the screen in the map that was uploading into it. For example, if the permissible storey height is 9 feet and in the map it is 8 feet; then the application would show that the storey height has been violated and it should be greater than 9 feet according to building byelaws.
