Project TitleProject Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary

Electronic devices for communication or medical use need longer battery life therefore they need to have low power consumption. They need an Ultra Low Power design capable of operating for several days (for mobile phone) or even a year (for medical devices). An LNA is a very important part of a receiver front end and can be power consuming. This project is based on designing an LNA that operates with less power dissipation and is effective. The LNA will be designed on 65nm CMOS technology using Cadence Design Tool. The most efficient design shall be selected using careful evaluation and analysis. Once an operational topology is selected which meets the given specifications such as Noise Figure, Gain, Power dissipation etc. a research paper shall be written.

Project Objectives

Electronic devices used for communication purposes or medical purposes have receivers in them. These receivers have a very important component which is an LNA. The objective of this project is to design a LNA that operates using ultra low power for BLE applications.

Project Implementation Method

The project shall be completed by adopting the following procedure.

  1. Dynamic Rule Check?
  2. Layout Vs Schematic?
  3. Parasitic Extraction?
Benefits of the Project

This project is beneficial for many reasons. A Ultra Low Power LNA can be used in electronic devices by making their battery life strong. Medical equipment like glucose or pressure monitor could report its status over Bluetooth LE. Pacemakers for a heart require wireless transmission. These medical equipments need a longer battery life. Devices other than medical equipment also require receivers that have low power consumption.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

It is a research based project that needs to be designed and simulated using an advanced software tool, Cadence Design Tool. The technology used for this project will be 65nm CMOS technology. If the proposed design meets all specifications provided by IEEE for an LNA, a prototype shall be made for the design for further testing.
