Project Summary

A compact, ultra light and easily portable  hydro electric power generator is being proposed for the areas where natural water reservoirs and naturally running water flow ( no matter how reduced  it maybe) like small streams, waterways, and or severage water channels with water flow are available. This proposed generator is capable of producing hydraulic electrical power for LED lights and lighter loads. The equipment is designed in such a way that it can even be operated from the severage water flow thru very narrow channels.   

ULTRA COMPACT HYDRO ELECTRIC POWER GENERATOR is a promising hydro power generation equipment which has potential for dissemination in non-electrified areas. 

This product can be manually assembled and utilized for LED lighting, drawing power from a nearby waterway.

The proposed simple yet comprehensive device is a potential solution for energy deprived countries like Pakistan where energy charges are increasing day by day and the crises is becoming a challenge. 

It is a way towards GREEN PAKISTAN and would assist for tackling the energy crises using the RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES at the microlevel. 

Project Objectives

1. Can provide up to 6 watt of elecrical power for LED street lighting and lighter loads. 
2. Generated power can be stored in a battery backup system if the power is not needed at the moment. 

3. To produce comparatively cheaper hydropower with minimum water flowrate.

Project Implementation Method

A specially designed spiral (screw type) water turbine would be designed with lightweight material like fiber. It would be embeded in a slanted tubular structure which water level rise mechanism. The structure of the spiral water turbine shall be designed in such a manner that it would produce the required rpm for the lightweight electrical generator with minimal water flow rate. 

Benefits of the Project

SIMPLE, LIGHT WEIGHT AND PORTABLE CONSTRUCTION

As the whole structure of this watermill is open-type and simple thus assembly, installation, cleaning, and maintenance can be completed with ease. Besides, the spiral shaped watermill prevents the unit to be clogged with floating substances or dusts or severage particles etc.
 

POWER GENERATION WITH MINIMAL WATER FLOW RATE

Because this product doesn’t require large waterways hence  pressure tubes and flow rate guarding equipment is not required at all.  This lowers the cost of the syestem and enhances its operational capabilities with minimal water flow rate. 

LESS MAINTENANCE COSTS

So this product can be installed and operated smoothly as long as the waterway ensures required flow for generation. Regarding main consumables (such as bearing, generator, and watermill turbine) that require maintenance, no special skill will be needed to exchange them. Consequently, maintenance costs shall reduce considerably. This product can store the electricity inside a battery when there is no need of light, provide sustainable amount of electricity to run street lights & produce electricity with low flow of water

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

A compact easily portable hydropower electrical generator capable of generating up to 6W of electrical pwoer at 10-20 litre per minutes of water flow rate.
