Project Summary

  1. There is a problem of litter thrown on the floors in offices,labs,rooms and corridors.
  2. In order to pick up and identify this trash, there needs to be an automated and efficient mechanism.
  3. The proposed Trashbot will be capable of not only picking up litter via a remote control , but also autonomously utilizing Image Processing with a camera connected to a Raspberry Pi.

Project Objectives

  • Sweep and collect bottles, wrappers, cans , plastics.
  • To work in closed environments including labs, offices,rooms,corridors.factor floors etc.

Project Implementation Method

  1. Designing and making the Trashbot's chassis/main body.
  2. Designing and fabricating the motor brackets for robot's chassis and also for the sweeping/roller brush.

Benefits of the Project

  • Quick and efficient cleaning up of litter.
  • Picking up trash easily in closed environments without having to rely on a human to pick it.
  • Identification of trash(If running on autonomous mode)
  • Sufficient storage capacity for an average requirement in a building.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

  1. 2 Power window motors for the main driving mechanism of the Trashbot.
  2. DC gear motor for driving the Roller brush.
  3. H-Bridge Relay driver circuit for controlling the three motors.
  4. Arduino UNO for manual/autonomous control of the Trashbot, with autonomous mode being dealt with Raspberry Pi 3b+ and  5MP Camera.
  5. Optional Ultrasonic sensors for obstacle avoidance in case of walls/machinery/tables.
  6. Roller brushes of 16'' length and 8" length of filaments.
