GS-1 based track and trace solution is an android-based application used for tracing and tracking the items like medicine, cosmetics etc. It is a general-purpose application that can be used in any industry. We are providing tracing facility to users which enables them to view the complete supply chain visibility including the manufacturing process, raw materials used, the manufacturing and expiry date which will ensure the authenticity of product. Tracking can be done by using a tracking ID by which users can track the orders they have placed. The app is free to use for general public. Application will also include an AI chatbot that will facilitate the users in accessing the information regarding the products.

Project Objectives

Following are the project objectives:
•    Full Chain Traceability: This feature provides the users of the application to authenticate whether their desired product is original or not. This can be done by scanning the GS-1 label i.e., data matrix, barcode, QR code scanner, provided on the package of the product.

•    Tracking: It provide the users real-time tracking of the package they ordered by scanning the item at multiple locations i.e., from manufacturer to the retailer.


•    Manufacturing Process: One of the objectives is to also provide the user details about the raw materials and the manufacturing process.

•    AI based chat support: There will be a chatbot in the application that will help users in tracing and tracking, in case, they are having trouble in scanning or tracking the item.
 

Project Implementation Method

We are implementing 3 main modules and some supporting modules in the application. Our First module is Tracing. It will be done as user will scan the GS-1 label printed on the item using the scanner provided in the application. The scanner will work using the camera of the mobile phone. The information then will be checked in the database, against the Label scanned, which is collected from the manufacturer through AWS online cloud. The information available in the database regarding the item will then be returned to the user.

2nd main module is Tracking. Tracking will be done using the Tracking ID provided to the user. The user will enter the Tracking ID and will be provided by the tracking details available against the tracking ID.  The tracking details are taken by different scanning checkpoints i.e., manufacturer, distributer, retailer etc. At each checkpoint, the item will be scanned and, time and location is updated on the cloud and is accessed by the application whenever required.

3rd important module is Chatbot. The users will get chat support in the application which will be AI based. Users will be able to get help from the chatbot in case user is having trouble in scanning or tracking the item. Chatbot will help the user in accessing the information.

The supporting modules include user account, search history, user guide. User account will help in maintaining the user’s tracking and tracing history. Search history will include all the previous searches’ history that will facilitate the user to access the already searched item record without scanning or tracing again. User guide will list all the instructions for using the application for the users that do not know how to use the application.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The technical details and the final deliverables are as follows: 

•    Firstly, there is a user side application interface which include all the functionality and features like: Tracing, Tracking, chatbot etc.

•    Secondly there is an admin end that will collect and push the data from AWS to firebase. The data in AWS will be updated by the manufacturers, distributers etc.

•    There will also be a ready to use Firebase Database that will have the data from AWS and the application will access the data directly from it whenever required.

•    The Chatbot will be AI based and will be connected to the firebase database in case it has to show data to the user against some GS-1 based label or tracking ID.
