Liquid dielectrics serve the purpose of insulation in major high voltage applications such as transformers, high voltage switchgears, reactors, capacitors and cables etc. For reliable operation of high voltage devices, it becomes necessary to regularly check the strength of the liquid dielectric as it determines whether the liquid dielectric is safe to use in the device of a certain voltage rating. By means of our breakdown voltage tester kit the above-mentioned purpose of maintenance checks is served. A sample of liquid dielectric is collected and placed in a container having two electrodes immersed in the liquid. Constantly increasing high potential is applied across the electrodes until the breakdown spark occurs. The protection circuit breaks the supply path and the voltage reached is termed as the breakdown voltage of the liquid.

For the purpose of testing the breakdown voltage of the insulating oil the voltage needs to be increased at a constant rate and applied at the electrodes immersed in the oil and when the breakdown occurs the circuit should break and the voltage at that instant should be noted.
