Thyristor Controlled Starting of Single Phase Induction Motor for Limiting Inrush Current
In industry and homes the induction motor plays on important role due to its simple and rugged construction. Advantage of induction motors are that they are robust and can operate in any environmental conditions. Induction are cheaper due to absence of brushes, commutator, and slip rings. They are maintenance free motor unlike DC motors and synchronous motors due to absence of brushes, commutator, and slip rings. Due to these advantages induction motor are used in industry and homes. Beside these advantages single phase induction motor, during the initial conditions draw more higher current then its capacity and the8 motor instantly reaches the full speed. This result in a mechanical jerk and high electrical stress on the windings may get burnt. This also results in lowering of power factor and increase the electricity bills. This project is designed to give a soft start to the induction motor based on the scr firing triggered by heavily delayed firing angle during starting and then gradually reducing this delay till it reaches zero voltage triggering .This will result in limiting the high inrush current preventing motor windings to get burn. This will also increase the power factor of our induction motor, that will reduce electricity consumption leading in reduced electricity bill. Hence this method can be very beneficial for the industries and homes as their low power factor problem will be solved, and it is also very much revolutionary for the common man as it will greatly decrease their electricity bills.

Our project is based on thyristor controlled starting of single phase induction motor for limiting inrsuh current. so, our main component is motor,thyristor,arduino as controller,power supply,opto coupler,IR sensor an other resistors etc.whenever we implement the hardware according to our simulation circuit diagramme. First of all we make power supply for opto-coupler and IR sensor which speed measuring and show on LCD through arduino.Then connect 220k ohm in series across the bridge rectifier and then its output is connected across the opto-coupler pc 817 and then its output connect with arduino and ardunio has programmed that give variable signal from low to high that signal goes to opto-copler MOC3021 an then its will triggered the gate voltage of thyristor BT136 and thyristor input M1 connect with phase and M2 pin is output pin of thyristor that will directly goes to induction motor which ratings is 1/2 h.p (373W) and speed of motor will controlled.We have face a large diffuculties in synchronizing the opto-coupler with arduino that will required a large time and cost for prolem solving. During implementation our superviosr give us a direction how this problem solved.we complete our project in 4 month.

IHence this method can be very beneficial for the industries and homes as their low power factor problem will be solved, and it is also very much revolutionary for the common man as it will greatly decrease their electricity bills.Because In Pakistan now a these days electricity per unit charges is high so that's why it is beneficial for overcome the electricity charges.
Our project is deliver to control the initial speed of motor which can limit the inrush current. Inrush current controlled by controlling the gate voltage through arduino.Then higher the triggering lower will be the speed of motor which give the soft start of motor.Then its speed of motor can observe by LCD.This proect is very helpful for industry ike paper pulp and homes for reducing the cost of maintenance and electricity bills.This project consist of power electronic base and machines.
