Three D Printer using IOT
Project Area of Specialization 3D/4D PrintingProject Summary3D Printing is a process for making a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model by using liquid plastic (or other materials), typically by creating many thin layers of that material. It brings a digital image of an object into its physical 3D form by adding layer by layer of materials. 3D printing can be used for prototyping, creating replacement parts, and is even flexible enough to print prostheses and medical appratus. 3D printers are expensive and not everyone can afford it for their individual purposes, and so there are not easily available for 3D printing services. Therefore for the prototyping purposes we are going to desiging an inexpensive 3D printer which you can be used for learning and education purposes by the students. We will also develop a 3D design builder mobile app in which you can design your 3D model and send that design directly from your smart phone to the printer.
Project ObjectivesThe objective behind creating this IOT based 3D printer is to give an easy access to the students of our university to this new technology to explore their creativety and for that we will provide a mobile app in which they can use their creativity and instantly convert it into reality.

Project Implementation Method
Setting up 3D printer:
A 3D printer will be assemled and codded to work precisely and perfectely which will be able to take commands from a USB port connected with a PC or from a wireless connection from the mobile application.
Developing 3D modeling mobile app:
An andriod application will be designed which will provide a user friendly interface in which user can explore his creativity and design in 3-dimensions.
Communication procedure of HW/SW:
Integrating wireless communication protocol for our project for performing the printing without connecting any cable with the printer
Benefits of the Project- Easy learning: Students will have an easy access to a 3D printer with a lot of features they can perform following tasks on the go;
- Rapid Prototyping :3D printing can manufacture parts within hours, which speeds up the prototyping process.
- Flexible Design: 3D printer allows for the design and print of more complex designs than traditional manufacturing processes.
3D printers build objects using a process known as additive manufacturing. Material is put down layer by layers; each layer adds to the previous layer to complete the 3D product.
3D Printer Ink:Polylactic Acid (PLA) and Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) filaments are usually used in 3D printers as ink. Filaments are categorized by diameter, extruder temperature required, print bed temperature, and what the print bed should be coated or covered with for best adhesion.
Print File Formats:Directions for positioning the nozzle and controlling the ink are received from a print file. There are many file formats in use. While CAD programs are commonly used to produce files but now-a-day newer design tools, as well as scanners and cameras, are also used.
| Some 3D Print File Formats | |
| *.STL | Stereolithography; 3D single color (one extruder ~1980s) |
| *.WRL | Vermal; multi-color (supports more than one extruder) |
| *.OBJ | Open source 3D geometric format |
| *.X3G | MakerBot format |
| *.PLY | Scanner output |
| *.3MF | 3D manufacturing format - 3MF Consortium specification (introduced in 2015, and still in use) |
