Thread Count Per Square Inch in Woven Fabric Using Image Processing
Thread counting using computer vision can be the most efficient way to counting no. of threads per square inch in the woven fabrics. This is the automation of the workload that is done by various workers using a small pick glass microscope for thread count. This is actually a manual task that is a time-taking process and takes too much effort to give accurate results.
Automation of this task is the main idea we have to develop in our Final year project.
Thread counting of woven fabrics using Computer Vision can be a hectic task for us and it will use image processing techniques to process the images taken by different cameras of the woven fabrics. This system will take picture of the fabric very closely and the main point is that the camera should be of high resolution. This paper proposes a cost-effective mobile or hardware system for the industries to utilize available resources to efficiently manage the time and effort of the workers in the industry, while also providing a better solution for the inconvenience of thread count results.
This can only be done when a good resolution camera will be used to take pictures in high quality so that threads will be visualized in a better way. So we will need a good relsolution camera like DSLR camera.
Our main objective of developing this system to to reduce the work load and increase the efficiency to count the number of threads per square inch in woven fabrics. Our system will be using image processing Techniques and by using different algorithms, the system will process the image of fabric and will extract the different woven patterns and will count the threads.
We will try our level best to automate the process of thread counting per square inch using computer vision so that it will be really helpful for the textile industries as well as for the end users of any type who wants to check out the quality of the fabric means fabric density.
Here are some major objective that will be outputs of the project.
Methadology that is used in this project is Agile Software Development Model.Agile Development is a quick and easy way to develop the system as it is iterative and modular. The complete tasks are divided into small modules and then work accordingly. It is the best model to develop this system.
As we are trying to develop a system that will count the no. of threads per square inch in woven fabrics. It will use image processing techniques and algorithms to process the images in which the threads are properly visualized and taken from the Digital camera so that light and dark pixels can be easily processed and understood by the system.
But For the most efficient pictures and processing of these pictures. We need a digital camera that will be used to take high-resolution pictures. Preferably DSLR should be used in this product so the results can be more efficient and uncertainty can be as lower as possible.
Some Major Tools that we are using in this development are listed below:
With this product, there can be many benefits in the textile industry as well as for the students studying textile to count the no. of threads per square inch in woven fabrics using digital means. This System might be really helpful in the textile industry era that will reduce human effort and time consumption. The buyers also take help from this system to check the fabric count by just taking images so that they can get the output that is expected by the seller or fabric maker.
We will try our best to produce this system to help in the quality check department because thread count is one of the most important things that is checked during the fabric is made. So Different counts are available in the market such as 80x70 thread count, 70x70 thread count, 80x105 thread count, etc.
This will also be really helpful for a layman to check the quality of woven fabric through a mobile camera but results cannot be efficient unless a DSLR High Definition camera is not used to take image samples of woven fabrics.
It can be a hectic task to perform this thing to count the no. of threads per square inch in woven fabrics as there need for a good and High Definition Digital Camera to take image samples of woven fabrics closely so that it is processed using image processing algorithms. Theoretically, it is easy to propose the idea because it’s the major solution that can be implemented in the textile market.
But technically we will try our level best to complete this thing. We have reached to count the threads but the results are not as good because a mobile camera cannot take a very high-definition picture of the fabric.
We need a Digital Camera To take samples and then process them using MATLAB and Python by implementing Different algorithms. Light and dark pixels will only be prominent when a picture will be of high definition.
That is the major issue we are facing right now and there may be other risks. Other risks can be faced like device issues or hardware issues (if implemented).
Final Delivery will be HW/SW Integrated system.
