Termite detector
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummarySUMMARY:
This invention relates to electronic termite detection system, and particularly to a system for detecting termites by detecting ultrasonic signals generated by feeding of termite. Hidden infestation of termites feedings and growing in wood and wood products causes an enormous economical loss each year. If , however, these infestations can be detected in early stages the damage can be predicted and timely termite management procedures can be implemented to prevent serious losses.
It is a method for detecting insects detects insects by detecting ultrasonic signals which are generated by mechanical disturbances in material on which insects are feeding caused by the insects feeding on the material.
Project ObjectivesOBJECTIVES:
- To make it at very low cost because it is really expensive gadget.
- To fulfill the need of zoology department of LCWU(lahore college for women university).
- To protects underground transmission cables from termite activity .
- To protects our houses/property from serious destruction caused by termites.
- To protects enormous plants from damage by earlier indication of termite presence.
In operation, ultrasonic transducer detects the ultrasonic signals which are generated by the mechanical disturbances propagating through a material caused by insects feeding on the material. Ultrasonic transducer converts the detected ultrasonic signals to electrical signals which have the same frequency as the detected ultrasonic signals. The detected ultrasonic signals have very low amplitudes and consequently theelectrical signals produced by ultrasonic transducer also have very low amplitudes.
It has the following parts
Transducer: Converts the detected ultrasonic signals to electrical signals.
Low Noise Amplifier: Amplifies ultrasonic signals introducing unwanted signal (noise).
Band-pass Filter: BPF passes only electrical signals having frequencies falling within a frequency range of transducer.
Full wave Rectifier :Gives non zero average value by inverting negative cycle.
Squelch Adjustment: Provides a threshold level to rectifier and is adjustable by user of insect detector
Low-pass Filter:Gives signals in range of human hearing capacity.
Schmitt Trigger: Performs that decision making process (whether an acoustic event (feeding event) has taken place).
Event Counter: Event counter counts the feeding events by counting each binary one(1) produced by Schmitt trigger.
Storage Circuit:Gives the total feeding events.
Interval Timer:The measuring period is determined by interval timer.
Display: Displays current number of feeding events.
Benefits of the ProjectBENIFITS:
- As to make it at very low cost because it is really expensive gadget it will save lot of money from wasting .
- Protects our houses/property from serious destruction caused by termites.
- Protects underground transmission cables from termite activity
- Protects enormous plants from damage by earlier indication of termite presence
We are using Acoustic Emission technology for the project. Acoustic Emission technology has been used in the field of nondestructive testing of metal parts. It is the apparatus for detecting insects detects insects by detecting ultrasonic signals which are generated by mechanical disturbances in material on which insects are feeding caused by the insects feeding on the material. These feeding insects produce ultrasonic signals which can be detected by the use of Acoustic Emission technology. As an insect feeds it tears the fibrous tissue it is feeding on. The tearing of the fibrous tissue creates mechanical disturbances which propogate throughout the material on which the insect is feeding. These mechanical disturbances generate ultrasonic signals which can be detected by the use of Acoustic Emission technology.
