Target localization and navigation using MIMO radar
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThe individual signals falling on antenna elements of phased array antenna are used to extract various parameters of the target in case of MIMO radars such as detailed RCS, direction of arrival estimation and doppler velocity. The coherent processing of signal in MIMO radar gives overwhelming benefit, over conventional phase array techniques where a single narrow beam scans in azimuth / elevation plane. In this project, the students will do thorough review and comparison of localization of targets using conventional MIMO technique, study the difference between coherent and non-coherent processing. Finally, they would implement a simple MIMO radar and predict angle of arrival (AOA) of a target and compare with the theoretical results.
Project Objectives- Theoretical study and design of simple MIMO radar for target localization and angle of arrival (AOA) estimation.
- Development of simple MIMO radar that would demonstrate its ability to estimate the angle of arrival (AOA) with predicted accuracy.
- Theoretical study and design of simple MIMO radar.
- Software algorithm/simulation of designed MIMO radar and comparison of performance of angle of arrival (AOA) estimate.
- Develop a simple MIMO radar and demonstrate angle of arrival (AOA) for a target.
- Application of engineering knowledge in the domain of antennas, RF communication and signal processing.
- Students understanding of radar system and design.
- MIMO radar development for possible future use and commercialization.
