Nanotechnology concerns the synthesis of nanomaterials with distinctive properties using various chemical, physical and/or biological strategies that provide multifunctional applications in the field of science and technology (Hashemi et al., 2022). In modern science the field of nanotechnology is one of the uttermost appealing and well-established area that provide a lot of variety of items with unique properties and applications in diverse fields (Younis et al., 2022).  Different approaches are employed for the preparation of nanomaterials such as biosynthetic, physical, and chemical methods and they exhibit a wide range of properties and applications (Sakhare et al.,, 2022). The nanoparticle (NP) is a very minute particle of less than 100 nanometers (nm), leastways in one dimension. Nanoparticles are the main elementary units for nanotechnology (Kemala et al., 2022). More than 50,000 articles on nanotechnology are issued every year and beyond 2,500 petitions are received by European Patent Office each year (Ji et al., 2022). Nanotechnology has beneficially impacted human lives in many ways, such as security of energy supply, enhancing environmental quality, textile and healthcare, as well as treating lethal diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's disease (Bedlovi?ová, 2022). In recent years, metallic nanoparticles have been intensely studied and introduced in the field of nanotechnology. Metallic nanoparticles are synthesized from various metals such as silver, gold and platinum that advantageously affects human health (Angelini & Gasbarri, 2022). Silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) are the most important and extensively used metal oxide nanoparticles and possess wide applications in various industries because of their unique physical, optical, electrical and chemical properties (Dutta et al., 2022), (Aziz et al., 2022). Ag-NPs were initially employed in the rubber industry to enhance the rigidity and potency of high polymers, as well improving antiaging effects (Sharma et al.,2022).

Recently, the synthesis of NPs using various algal species has been widely introduced because algae are way easy to handle, possess the capability of absorbing inorganic metallic ions, low cost process, environmental friendly and easy and fast synthesis procedure (Uzair et al., 2020). Algae carry out the most efficient method of green synthesis due to the ability to absorb metals and convert them into nanoparticles (AlNadhari et al., 2021). The present study is based on the synthesis and characterization of Silver Nanoparticles by using the aqueous extract of Green Algae Oedogonium species and also determining the antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-leishmanial activity of synthesized nanoparticles.

Significance of the outcomes

  • The biological synthesis of Green Algae has proved to be efficient and eco-friendly route of synthesizing Ag-NPs.
  • The screening of Ag-NPs is essential to determine their activity in different fields such as medicine, cosmetics and treatment of various diseases and will provide beneficial ways for pharmaceutical applications.
  • The antibacterial activity of Ag-NPs will be determined that could be further employed for therapeutics especially against those bacteria that have become resistant to a certain drug.
  • The inhibitory action of Ag-NPs against leishmania strain will be determined and will provide novel approaches for further use in therapeutics.
  • This study will provide wide application for antimicrobial therapy in modern science.
