Solar Water Heating System

Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject Summary

Solar water heating system is a device that uses solar energy to heat water for domestic, commercial, and industrial needs. Heating of water is the most common application of solar energy in the world. A typical solar water heating system can save up to 1500 units of electricity every year, for every 100 litres per day of solar water heating capacity.

Solar Water Heating (SWH) is the process of converting sunlight into renewable energy to heat water using a solar thermal collector. Solar water heating systems comprise of various technologies that are increasingly used worldwide.

As water is the essential resource to survive for all the living beings on this planet, it also needs to be at certain range of temperature for the consumption & pure in terms of water quality.

A variety of systems are available in market with variations in product quality & their expenses.

As of 2017, global solar hot water capacity is 472GWth and the market is dominated by china, the United States and Turkey . Barbados , Austria , Cyprus , Israel and Greece are the leading countries by capacity per capita.

Solar energy is diurnal and seasonal in nature. Solar energy can be used for heating water. In 1891, Clarence Kemp patented by adding a metal panel to the tank in order to improve the efficiency of the solar tank. In 1909, William Bailey started selling day and night solar water heater with a coiled pipe collector inside a glass covered box and a separate insulated indoor water storage tank mounted above the collector thereby allowing hot water circulation by natural convection. By 1960s, simple solar water heater with a basin and top glass cover were used in large numbers in Japan. Usage of Solar Water Heaters increases globally to meet out the energy crisis, deficit and increase in cost of fossil fuels. This attempt to utilize renewable solar energy also reduces the carbon emission into the atmosphere.

A solar water heater unit consists of components such as solar collector, storage tank, heat exchanger, circulation pump, connecting pipe lines etc. The solar collector transforms the solar radiation into thermal energy.

Project Objectives

The aim of this project is to provide clean water for the general use of TL department . even we can provide whole university by the upgrading of installation.

Following are the prime objectives of our project:

Benefits of the Project

If we see directly a solar water heater can not reduce our water consuption but it has enormous benefits that are very fizible for us. Few of which are discussed  as under.

  1. Fighting Climate Change

In water heating about 17 to 18% of our home energy is  being used daily. In many countries water is heated with the help of natural gas or fossil fuel. That is the main reason tat many tons of carbon dioxidr is spreaded  in our atmosphere. By using solar hot water we can reduce carbon and other green house gasses in a large amount and can save our climate eaily.

        2.  Protecting air quality.

Some where electricity is used to heat water. Over one-third of electric power comes from burning coal. The perticulates and other byproducts of this burning coal spread pollution in our environment and contribute mainly in occourance of severe health issues as well. When water is headed with the help of solar energy a great solution to these serious problems is obtained..

        3.     Protecting Water Quality.

Only carbonn and some other gasses  are not the byproducts of burning fossil fuel. The Natural Resource Defence Council has identified man power plants as a  main and primary source of murcury and and many other harmful heavy metals that are being released in our environment each year. All these substances occoured are a major threat to our rivers streams and lakes and they also harm human health as well. By solar water heating one practical step can be taken to stop contamination of our watersheds.

        4.  Monthly sSavings.

About 80% needs of your hot water can be fulltilled by using a solar water heater. With this small step we can save a major amount of our utility bills every month. The investment fr a solar water heater is required only for four to eight years and it is expected to provide best services for at least fourty years. This can save a lot of energy and money as well. Thus adding this solar heating system will give you a best reward whether you stay or not.
