Solar powered smart Irrigation system
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThe Important sector of Pakistan’s economy is Agriculture and irrigation is the lifeblood of agriculture. Pakistan irrigation system is in dire straits due to the chronic operational problems. To minimize the human intervention in farm, Land irrigation can be done using this automated technology. Solar powered Smart Irrigation system is a solution to many problems of the agricultural system. It is a proposed solution to the energy crisis for the farmers of Pakistan. The system is powered by solar system as a renewable energy which uses solar panel module to convert Sunlight into electricity. This system conserves electricity by reducing the usage of grid power. The system is equipped with the input soil moisture sensors which measure the humidity of the soil and the buzzer which Informs farmer about the updates about irrigation. Other than that this system consists of automatic spray system for the prevention of weeds, insecticides and pesticides in the crops.
Project ObjectivesAims and objectives of this project is to design a low cost automated irrigation system and to use solar energy efficiently for driving water for irrigation purpose. Also to minimize manual intervention in watering operations and to make the automated system sustainable option to be considered to improve the agriculture and irrigation efficiency.
Project Implementation MethodThis system will be using solar power to drive water from the water tank and the outlet valve of the tank is automatically regulated using microcontroller and soil moisture sensor to control the flow of water to the irrigation field. When desired level of water will be achieved buzzer will produce sound and water flow will be stop conserving the water by avoiding over flooding of crops. Moreover Crops will be sprayed specific number of times automatically.
Benefits of the ProjectDependency of rain for crops and mostly the existing irrigation systems are driven by electrical power and manually ON/OFF scheduling controlled. Agriculture is the important sector of Pakistan’s economy so cost effective solar power smart irrigation system can be the answer for energy needs. This system focuses on an efficient, economical and automated solution for irrigation to decrease man intervention using solar power module.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableFor Solar energy we are using solar panels and battery for storage of energy as a backup. We are using Arduino which will control all the mechanism of the system. We are using soil moisture sensors to detect the humidity in the soil. We are also using thermal camera to take pictures and then crops will be sprayed automatically according to those pictures. We designed a logic for the whole system on which our system will work also we have built a program for the logic that we have designed. We are using GSM module to inform the farm owner about the start and end of irrigation also the GSM module will be used to manually control the system by sending message to it.
