Smart Video Doorbell using Raspberry Pi
The objective of this project is to facilitate the user with a simple and customized technology to effectively manage visitors flowing to his/her premises. It will be a real-time smart doorbell notification system that includes the features of face detection which detects the visitor either wearing mask and helmet or without them too. The system combines the functions of a smart and a house network system. It will enable the users to monitor visitors in real-time via the IoT-based doorbell installed near the entrance door to a house. The doorbell will be controlled in a smart way to intimate the user with a picture and a notification of the visitor at the doorstep. The user will able to monitor his house. The monitoring will be done from any remote place using a smartphone and internet facility. An email notifying the user about the entry of any person in front of his house will sent immediately after the entry is detected. Then if the user wants to communicate with the visitor in front of his house a two-way voice communication will establish using VOIP (Voice over internet protocol). In the age of technology, it is necessary to update our security systems and to make living easier.
The project objective is to provide a system that notifies the user about the entry of visitors via a smart device using raspberry pi and a camera.
? The primary objective of the project is to interface a USB camera with the raspberry pi and to obtain a picture of the visitor.
? Providing video live streaming for the owner through an android application, to monitor visitors’ actions.
? Establishing two-way voice communication between user and visitor using VOIP protocol and being able to communicate.
For an embedded real-time surveillance system to be utilized for effective monitoring and alerting, the system will have at least three functions. These functions are detection and capturing the image, alert mechanism and live video streaming, and two-way voice communication.
1. Detection and Capturing Image
PIR sensor will interfaced with Raspberry Pi using GPIO pin 21 which will –onboard pin, whereas Camera will interfaced using CMSI port. The presence of an intruder will detected by the Passive Infrared Sensor. When the motion will be detect the PIR sensor output goes high and it triggers the Camera. The Camera captures the image and sends it to Raspberry Pi.
2. Alert Mechanism
When an intrusions detect, the owner will alert by sending an email as shown in figure 1. When the face will detect in the image captured, it will sent as an attachment along with the email. Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME) package will be called and will use to generate the attachment. MIME supports characters other than ASCII, non – text attachments (audio, video, and application programs), etc. It thus extends the format of an email. Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) program will then used to deliver the email from the Raspberry Pi to the configured mail-hub.
3. Video Streaming and Voice communication
It will allow users to view data from the Web Camera via the internet to detect intruders. To access live video streaming we will have to specify a Raspberry Pi IP address followed by a port number which is 8081. For live streaming, we will use motion software. Communication between user and intruder will be possible via Mumble server, which creates a channel between the user’s android device and Raspberry Pi.
It will have a variety of features such as energy-efficient, intelligent, low cost, portability, and high performance. This system will combine the functions of a smartphone and a home network system. It will enable the user to monitor visitors in real-time, remotely via the IoT-based doorbell installed near the entrance door to a house. This system will make security further autonomous by capturing the voice communication that can be established between owner and visitor.
Steps involved:
? Raspberry Pi will boot up.
? If any motion will detect PIR output will goes high.
? The camera will trigger and the image will be capture.
? An email alert will be sent to the user, with an image attachment.
