User will login on the LCD of the trolley and after that our Shopping trolley will follow its user through a connection between user and trolley. It will be autonomous, obstacle avoider and human follower. As the superstores are large, filled with items and crowded so user misses promotions and discounts on items as well. Through localization map direction and promotions will be shown on LCD of the trolley. So the user does not miss out on any experience. The trolley will trigger an alarm/vibration on user mobile application if it will be stuck. If the user is moving out of a specific range then the trolley will also trigger alarm/vibration.
Project ObjectivesFirst Shopping cart was introduced in 1937, 82 years later we are using the same mechanism. After all the evolution of Technology, why are we not using it in cart & trolleys to make user life more comfortable. Many tech giant companies like Amazaon, Microsoft, Panasonic, LG and retailer giants like Walmart, Emart, JD and Kroger are doing similar work to revolutionize shopping industry.
When a user goes for shopping, he has to be bound with a trolley and has to push it wherever he goes. It is time consuming, tiring and hectic work. So the user cannot be relaxed, satisfied and can’t enjoy shopping. As the superstores are large, filled with items and crowded so user misses promotions and discounts on items as well. As the trolley is operated by humans the chances of accidents by trolley are also very much.
Our objective in this project is to create a solution incorporating the latest technology to all these problems of the shopping industry. Our solution will be of model PLUG N PLAY and it will be forward compatible. Meaning the malls, docks will not have to buy new trolleys but instead join our robot with their already bought trollies whenever they need. So our solution will be cheap, affordable and a win for both user and industry.
Project Implementation MethodWe are making a Smart Shopping Trolley. Our Trolley main functions can be categorized as
- Autonomousity
- Obstacle Avoidance
- Human Following
- Map Directions
- Promotions
We will be making a robot which gets attached to the trolley and controls it. User will enter Shopping Mall and get assigned a smart shopping trolley. For Trolley Assigning to a particular person, we will sign up and sign in on trolley LCD. So user comes and signs in on LCD of the trolley and in the backend database trolley gets assigned to that particular person. Through this, we will also be handling that the trolley doesn't get assigned to another person while it is being in use. For Human following, the user will wear a gadget and the trolley will follow that gadget. ROS, VREP, Arduino will be used to make robot Autonomous and for Obstacle Avoidance, we will be using Ultrasonic sensors. For Map Directions and Promotions of a brand on LCD, we will use Localization and we will achieve it through odometry

Our Shopping Trolley will be based on model PLUG N PLAY and it will be forward compatible. Meaning the malls, docks will not have to buy new trolleys but instead join our robot with their already bought trollies whenever they need. So our solution will be cheap, affordable and a win for both user and industry.
The End Product will be a Smart Shopping Trolley which will be connected to its user gadget. It will be autonomous and will follow its user in the mall. The trolley will detect and avoid an obstacle in its path by moving left or right if the path is partially occupied. It will stop if not enough space is available for the trolley and will trigger an alarm/vibration on user gadget. The trolley according to its position will tell the user about Promotion & Discounts through LCD screen on the robot. If the user is moving out of a specific range from the trolley than alarm/vibration will be generated on the gadget of the user to notify him/her.
