After the cumbersome task of finding your desired products, all the products need to be scanned by a barcode reader for billing, so there's a long queue for checkouts and payments at the exit counter. Smart Shopping Cart addresses the expectations of customers, whose basic demand is to reduce the various problems like long queues, waste of time, going through the whole process even if the customer buys one or two items. To overcome the current situation and to ease and faster the purchasing process a new RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology is being introduced. By using RFID technology, tags are assigned to items and generally an RFID scanner is used for identification of objects using radio waves. It possesses a great advantage over the barcode scanning system technology as in RFID there is no assigned line of sight, as opposed to barcode scanners, where the object is scanned if and only if it’s placed under a line of sight. RFID scanning distance can be easily adjusted as per need
Every product would be provided with a unique RFID tag and an LCD screen placed on the cart will display the price and name of the product placed in the cart by the help of an RFID scanner. By Using the Smart Shopping Cart android app, people would easily know the bill to be paid and add or subtract the products in the cart. The number of items in the cart and their prices will be displayed on the LCD screen planted on the cart. Billing will be made from the Android App either through online payment or manually by hand. The customers will also have a record of their previous shopping.
The outcome of this project will not only be in favor of the customers but also the mall owners who can make the whole process productive and time saving which can lead to long-term benefits in terms of business as well as customer satisfaction.
Project Objectives- To design a real-time price scanning and billing Smart Shopping Cart for Grocery that makes shopping experience more user friendly, fast and productive.
- Proposed system is suppose to provide a technology oriented, low- cost, easily scalable, and rugged system for assisting shopping in person
- It will help user to skip the cash counter and do a self check-out
- It minimizes the man-power required at the shopping mall
- Making shopping experience more exciting and attractive for the customers
The Waterfall approach, the whole process of software development is divided into separate phases. The outcome of one phase acts as the input for the next phase sequentially. This means that any phase in the development process begins only if the previous phase is complete. The waterfall model is a sequential design process in which progress is seen as flowing steadily downwards (like a waterfall) through the phases of Conception, Initiation, Analysis, Design, Construction, Testing, Production/Implementation, and Maintenance.
Benefits of the ProjectThis system will remove the difficulty of waiting in line for hours to pay the bills in mart or shopping centers.
Users will be able to know at the same time what they are buying and how much does it costs.
This system is very easy to use so anyone can use it; just have to drop the item in the cart and the details will be shown on the LCD screen and in your phone, software is keeping the record of the item you dropped.
One of the main aims of the project is to have some positive effect on the daily life by creating a system that will save time and will be providing some ease.
The system’s main target is the social life of people. Application will keep the list of the all the items that have been bought with a time to time current total as well, just connect the phone with the nearest cart through Bluetooth and start shopping.
Having a look on the social side, the main problem that has been faced, is the waiting time after doing the shopping to pay the bills that is very frustrating for the customers. We are trying to minimize that as much as possible.
Due to this Virus situation (COVID-19), people want to keep their interaction as less as possible and we have tried to make a system that will work on the phrase “Just Walk Away”. Get your things, pay your bills online and just walk away.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableSmart Shopping Cart is a grocery shopping trolley that is equipped with an RFID scanner that scans every item (planted with an RFID tag) being placed in to the cart without the limitation of Line of sight meaning the scanner and the tag does not have to be facing each other to be scanned. The price and name of item will be displayed to the user on the LCD screen installed on the Cart. It will also display the number of items in the basket and their subtotal. This information will also be transmitted to the android application in customer’s cell phone via Bluetooth which will give customers the option to pay their bill online and save their current grocery list.
