Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryMoving a trolley is really difficult task to do in malls and shopping areas. Customers have to stand in queue for very long time for billing as on the counter, the person will make bill for each and every product one by one which will consume lots of time. So, to overcome these problems we are introducing a idea called “Smart shopping Cart”. Our trolley will move automatically using sensors. We are using IR sensors and for motion we are using DC motors . When a customer puts any product in a trolley its code will be detected using RFID Reader attached with the trolley. Thus, Customer can keep the track of the total amount. It will be displayed on LCD.
Project ObjectivesThe main objective of our project is to make shopping more easy and comfortable for each and every customer by providing them many facilities right in their trolley. Trolley will move after the customer at the maintained distance. Once the shopping is done one has not to wait in the queue as the trolley will have RFID Reader attached. The customer’s trolley will have the total amount displayed on the LCD which will be then tracked by the man on the counter. So the time will be consumed less.
Project Implementation MethodOur project is able to move automatically under the drive of two 12 V DC motors, whose voltage input is controlled by Arduino to adjust moving speed. Three ultrasonic sensors are embedded in front, left and right of the cart.The gyro sensors are used for the angular rotation of cart.The communication between the cart and customer is achieved by two RF transceivers operated at 433 MHz band: one attached to the cart and one carried by the customer. The cart receives customer’s shopping list through the user interface, which consists of a keypad, an LCD and an ATmega328, that generates the shortest path covering all products selected. Our main microcontroller, Arduino, works as the information transfer and processing center. It is connected to most subcomponents and is programmed with the logic that responses to all possible situations. . RFID technology is used to implement the automatic billing system.
- Every product in the mall will have an RFID tag on it.
- If the product is added to the cart or removed from the cart, it must update the bill on the LCD screen.
- After the payment of money, the cart gets reset.
The project is developed with low cost, low power consumption. With our project costumers can enjoy shopping without pushing shopping trolley themselves.The performance of the system can be analyzed in terms of easiness to the user for fast billing, the more precise recommendations in real-time, and comparison with the existing system. In this system, automatic billing system using RFID technology will give the customers ease of automatic billing and sales promotion based on their product purchase. For implementing this system in real time, barcode system needs to be replaced by RFID system.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableProject will consist of a Cart attached to LCD to display total amount. DC motors are connected to another port to drive the trolley. RFID code is given to some stuff and RFID reader will read that code and adds the respective amount to the bill. For DC motors we have used additional power supply. The sensors are attached. They will sense the coming infrared signal and the trolley will move in that direction. The communication will be achieved by Transciever. One will be attach to Cart and other will be in the hand of customer.
