Real-time object detection and object tracking using A.I is the topic of our FYP. As the name suggest it related to security and monitoring domain. Security is a basic need for any home or business, especially in today’s environment maintaining safe and secure environment has become crucial. our project will detect gun and keep tracking the object that is holding the gun. There will also a database that we use to store the detection record. Database will be updating in real-time. We will also provide a threat handling mechanism that can deal with the threat in the absence of the person.

Project Objectives

As we discuss previously that our project will detect gun and keep tracking the object that is holding the gun. There will also a database that we use to store the detection record. Database will be updating in real-time. We will also provide a threat handling mechanism that can deal with the threat in the absence of the person. For threat handling there will some kind of hardware components that can deal with the threat in real-time. Alarm mechanism is also coming under the threat handling module. This threat handling mechanism works only works after the system has detected the threat (detected gun) system. Due to this threat handling mechanism our system has become sensitive because an error in this part causes a big problem. That is why we have not made the system fully autonomous in the working for threat handling mechanism. We also have some manual controls for operating it. So, by observing the above features of our system we can say that it can be very useful in security domain. And our system can be implacable to many scenarios where we need security with the plus point that it works with and without human presence.

Project Implementation Method

Real-time object detection and object tracking is used to for security and monitoring purposes. Main functionality of the system to detect the gun and also track the object that is holding it until it is visible in the camera.

And then after detection system operate the threat handling mechanism. And system also stores the detection information in the database for keeping the record of the detections. For the object detection and tracking part we will be using YOLO algorithm. Reason why we are using the YOLO algorithm because YOLO algorithm much faster and accurate then other algorithms in object detection.

For the database of the system, we will use the light weight relational database like sql-lite. Reason for choosing the sql-lite is because our whole project will be running on the embedded system like raspberry-pi which have limitations regarding memory and computation power that’s why we need light weight database that can operate on this. For the threat handling mechanism, we will use hardware that can respond to the threat in the effective manner. This mechanism would be mechanical made of motors and of a controller attached to the system. Alarm system is also will be the part of the threat handling mechanism. This threat handling system would not be fully autonomous because it is very sensitive part error in handling threat in autonomous can cause a lot of physical damage. Apart from the automatic controls our system has some manual controls that are used by the security specialist to control the system.

Our project will be operating on the raspberry-pi and video camera is attached to it for the video input. As we discuss earlier the database is will be running on the raspberry-pi.

Benefits of the Project

As the project is related to security domain that is why it has alot applications and benefits that are related to security. Like normally security or monitoring system requires a person to monitor the system but our system would be automatic and semi-automatic so it can work with and without any person monitoring it.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable Final deliverable consist of:

Hardware (raspberry-pi, camera, motors, and alarm circuit) As we discuss earlier our system will be operating upon raspberry-pi. Also, we are using the video camera for the real-time video input. Motors and alarm circuit are used in threat handling mechanism.

Operating system (Linux) The operating system for our project we are using Linux. Reason for choosing the Linux is because it is a stable, secure and light weight operating system.

Platform (Python) We will use python language to build this project. Reason for choosing the python is because python is easy to implement and have large community support.

Database (SQL) As we discuss earlier, we are using the relational database so that is why need to use SQL language for the database.

App (User-App) The app used by the user for monitoring the system.
